Loveless monkey adopts chicken at zoo

A lonely monkey at an Israeli zoo has found a way to soothe her maternal urges: by adopting a chicken.

Niv, an Indonesian black macaque, has spent the past week caressing, cleaning and playing with the bird at the Ramat Gan Safari Park near Tel Aviv.

"It seems that Niv, who is four years old and has reached the age of sexual maturity, has difficulty finding a partner," the zoo's spokeswoman Mor Porat said.

"This probably explains the maternal instinct she expresses to this chicken."

The bird, which doesn't have a name, could easily escape through the bars but chooses to stay near Niv.

"These kinds of relationships are rare," Porat told AFP. "Sometimes macaques kill and eat chickens that enter their pens or play with them until they die."

If anyone posts "Winner, winner, chicken dinner," I'm going to be severely perturbed. However, the punctuation fanatics can have at it.

“Loveless monkey adopts chicken”

Did he choke it yet?

If that monkey chokes that chicken, spank it.

Didn’t Mae West say: Using a feather is kinky, but a whole chicken is just perverted.

I know that some women who are adamant about not having kids sooth their maternal urges by raising pets. And some go into nursing.

But how do those who don’t do either handle it? Do they turn to Steinem’s Little Red Book? Pretend they don’t exist?

How is that chicken supposed to, “easily escape through the bars,” when the monkey has it in its clutches?

But how do those who don’t do either handle it?

They raise chickens.

A brief search of FR will reveal a multitude of crazy chicken lady stories.

They make cat ladies look positively well adjusted.

It has nothing to do with love or loneliness. Those are human conditions. The animal is an animal, and not a human.

You should read Craiglist “Pets” section sometimes.
One thing I find both amusing and annoying is when someone posts an Ad for a pet, and the Ad is supposed to be written
‘First Person’ from the pet’s point of view.

“Hi! My name is Rudy. I am the most AMAZING Rooster you will ever meet! Everybody loves me! My Carer-Partner has just lost her job and has to move back with her parents. Her Mom is ‘allergic’ to chickens, so she says. Jury’s still out on the veracity of that diagnosis. Anyway, I like eating grains, bread, grasshoppers and Boll Weevils when I can find them. I only crow for 5 hours a day, honest!”

I beg to differ. Have you never seen a video of a dog that thought it had lost its owner? Only to have him reappear a year later.

Can you honestly say that the animal has not experienced love and loneliness?

Could be worse... the monkey could have adopted a football. :)
