The ending of No. 7 LSU's 24-17 win over Arkansas gave bettors in Las Vegas quite a scare on Saturday.
The Tigers closed as 13-point favorites and held a seven-point lead with just over a minute left, when senior tailback Nick Brossette ran 16 yards and fell down in bounds at the seven.

The only reason that ESPN and the NYC Metro area sports broadcasters care about College Football is that it gives them another thing to bet on.
I am so sick of the “sports commentators & personalities” blathering on & on about the “over & under” and “beating the spread”.
Nearly all of the good college teams are in ‘flyover country’ so ESPN’s primary interest is in the betting opportunity.

In that situation, you are better off not scoring and just running out the clock.
If you score the other team gets the ball and if they score, they can get an onsides kick and then score.
Stopping short of the endzone stops any chance of that happening.
But yes after that, the QB should have just kneeled without handing off the ball.
