Two Democrats in the U.S. Senate – both said to be eyeing the party’s 2020 presidential nomination -- recently announced so-called “basic income” plans for America’s lower-income families. A liberal publication, meanwhile, says neither plan goes far enough to aid families, and the government should instead just start “writing them checks.” But the Heritage Foundation argues that such plans tend to fail, in part because they tend to remove the incentive for work.

You don’t say.

You mean, if tomorrow I was offered a chance to landscape a garden for 8 hours and make $300, or just stay at home, get High and watch tv, and make $200, I might choose to stay home?

I’m so glad we have think tanks to figure this stuff out for us.

You forgot about getting up at 6:15, taking the bus to Home Depot, waiting in the rain and getting called off and going home and getting high and not getting the $300 about one of every 5 days.

Wow! A think thank figured that out!

Good for them.

What would we do without think tanks to figure out this complicated, esoteric stuff for us?

One of these days I bet some think thank is going to figure out that water is wet.

Thank you for posting this...

She may try to run—barry did and the media and pols ignored his questionable eligibility...but I agree that she is not NBC.

She should not be allowed to run.

Hardly anyone ever points this out...Even here :(

There’s a sick part of me that would like them to take over so I can watch the results of all their policies. Disastrous? Of course, but I’d love to see the Never Trump wing have to deal with what they wrought.

How about giving disabled veterans a meaningful raise first? Last year’s raise was a fraction of one percent. That’s shameful in the world’s richest country.

If the following were issues the last election would Harris dare suggest the free nonsense she’s come up with?

Why does California have one of the highest costs of living in the US ? Plus a massive bureaucracy created to support never ending increased policies offering costly goods and services paid by the state through taxation to non citizens ?

This is not a basic income plan. It is a basic vote buying plan.

It will ‘buy’ votes, but here’s the curious thing....it requires a ton of money (meaning additional taxes). So it will create a mini-recession in just the first year. As jobs slow down and tax revenue decreases....more people require it, and the tax situation has to escalate.

I would suggest that about four years into this...it’ll flip up a civil conflict where taxation and basic income only equal physical violence (a revolutionary conflict).

“I would suggest that about four years into this...it’ll flip up a civil conflict where taxation and basic income only equal physical violence (a revolutionary conflict).”

I don’t think we’ll see either a civil war like the one in the nineteenth century, or a revolutionary war like the one in the eighteenth century. The reason is both were conflicts between huge, established political entities tied to land and special interests. The conflicts we have today between ideologies, liberal and conservative, or have and have-not, are not tied to land and the same type of large scale special interests. (George Soros does not have the trading interests of the colonies or the cotton economy of the South. He’s just a rich eccentric.) We are in a civil war, the physical conflicts are being paid for by special interests, like Soros. Thus Antifa, BLM, Occupy Wall Street, etc. are not grass roots so much as mere paid mercenaries. They are not the result of the type of tectonic forces that brought us the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, or world wars one and two. They are, by comparison, tempests in tea pots.

That's a feature, not a bug.

Me.. “hey buddy how about helping us I’ll pay you.”
Guy sitting on the courthouse wall.... “ y’all pays me not to work”
That was 30 years ago.
What was done about it...?
Well they did modify the courthouse wall to make it uncomfortable to sit on.
