Under the command of General Eisenhower, Allied naval forces, supported by strong air forces, began landing Allied armies this morning on the northern coast of France.
This ends the reading of Communique Number One, Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force.

One of the greatest events in American and world history should be given a month of honor at all costs. Most of these men are around 100 years old.
This is where America is in 2019: June is "gay pride" month. I bet most could not define D-Day.
Let that sink in.

The thing that always strikes me when listening to the broadcasts, was the high quality of journalism back then as opposed to today.

If it were our media now they would have immediately pronounced the whole invasion as a ‘’quagmire’’.

Heck, today the June 5th edition of the NYT would have the headline: “Allies Set to Invade Normandy Tomorrow”

The thing that always strikes me when listening to the broadcasts, was the high quality of journalism back then as opposed to today. Great point. There's no apparent attempt to add, modify, or otherwise editorialize during reading of the news. There's only a single broadcaster--no assembly of a "forum" to discuss or "analyze" what the information means (or should mean) to its listeners.

Were Walter Cronkite at the scene, he would have said weve lost. He did about viet Nam and Tet, the bastard, and he singularly cost us many, many thousands of our young mens lives.
