Denise Nickerson, who played Violet in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," is living out the last moments of her life, because her family tells us they have just taken her off life support.

Nickerson, who suffered a stroke last year, was at home Monday and, according to her family, she got into her meds at home and took as many as she could. Her family came to check on her shortly thereafter and rushed her to the ER.

Once in the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia. On Tuesday, she suffered a massive seizure and doctors put Denise on life support.

On his best day, Depp is not Gene Wilder. Depp made movies that were entertaining to different groups. Wilder acted for all groups with many different parts, a superior actor.

I don't know where "around here" is but my parents died in Arizona.

Despite the funeral home trying to upsell the services which they first quoted at $9,000, we told them no. The gal we were dealing with at the funeral home objected strenuously about us buying only a cardboard box for the ashes. She said it was disrespectful to the deceased.

When I asked her why it was offered as one of their urn options, she stopped selling and completed the contract for the cremation to include the cardboard box.

I understand this is how they make their money but they do catch people at their most vulnerable time because a loved one has just died. People can spend $5000 to $25,000 or more for funerals and expensive coffins nowadays.

My parents both specifically mentioned the cardboard box as their choice in their final arrangements before their deaths so there was no question what they wanted. They also declined funeral services. My sister and brother and I had a small, private family service in my home with a few close friends of my parents after each one passed away. No public service.

Opposition to Willy Wonka was led by a Canadian woman writer who moved to California and was taken in by the liberalism she encountered there.

None of her writing became especially famous, save for her attacks on Willy Wonka.

Your link was good, but still essentially cheery, while the opposition to WW was relentless and very, very bitter.

I can’t remember exactly what Dahl did to show his very deep conservative streak, but it was something important; the libs hated his guts for something ideological.

This made me like him much more. Plus, he was a fighter pilot, which is cool.

They hated Jack London’s guts, too.

Thats what we paid for my mother last year. I was thinking more like the $600 by my oldest brother made the arrangements. But my point is that its sad they cant scrape enough together to cremate her.

".... my point is that its sad they cant scrape enough together to cremate her...."

$4,700 is a lot to have to scrape together for many folks. It's a lot of money to my wife and I. They wouldn't have to ask for donations if the funeral industry wasn't charging vulnerable people so much to carry out their wishes.

This is why my parents told me (the executor in both estates) not to spend any more than the bare minimum on the cremation and a cardboard container. They didn't believe in wasting money on the funeral arrangements when it could go to us kids in the estate. Makes sense to me.

I believe the Johnny depp version is closer to the book. Apparently it wasn’t all sugary.

My father suffered some sort of stroke two weeks ago. He can’t eat solid food anymore and he just a bag that he takes liquid nourishment from.

He got a case of pneumonia as well, so he might in the hospital for a couple of weeks.

B.F.G. should some of his liberal side.

However, he is a gifted writer, and actually writes in the manner of real Fairy Tales, where oddball rules are absolutely followed, and actions, especially disobedience, has consequences.

My mother said she wanted to have her body donated to science...we weren’t comfortable with that but wanted to abide by her wishes so we made a deal with school. We wanted her back after a year. A year later they sent back her cremated remains to us. It never costed us a penny, except for the memorial service we decided to have at the church.

What is your bakery/doughnut shop?

Sold it off a couple of years ago. Best thing I ever did. It was profitable, but no sleep. I like sleep.

I was the Trustee of a trust and two family members died. Both expressed their wishes for cremation. I ended up paying over $8000 for each one.

The funeral home charged me $1000 each for a casket rental for the funerals, I have always wondered how much money that casket generated in fees.

I found the thing a total ripoff.

I am seriously considering donating my body to the Body Farm in either Kentucky or Texas.
