“They are still keeping the 200 mpg carburetor off the market too. /s

I loved my college thermodynamics class. The professor took on every possible miracle energy device; windmills, ground water cooling, solar panels, the 200 mpg carburetor...all of them. We worked the problems and even making conservative assumptions, none of them worked out as touted. As for the carburetor, engine friction, efficiency and the total mount of energy available in a gallon of gas were considered. Even running friction and other losses to zero the numbers didn’t work out. I don’t know how anyone today can push idiot solar panels or windmills as they simply don’t work.

Facts are stubborn little things aren’t they? I’ve done some of the same evaluations adn the result is that I consider all promoters of alternate energy to be liars first.

I like Thermodynamics a whole lot more now than when I was in class. You had a good professor who made the class relevant instead of just a bunch of dry formulae.

Problems can be solved with aplomb when you know the basics. We designed a large radiator system to cool a test article by doing a timed run with specific inputs taking returns through our cooling reservoir tanks. The heat rise was approximately equal to the heat generated and with the radiator test tables as supplied by the manufacturer we were able to select appropriate radiators.

I wish I had taken more mechanical engineering classes.
