Cape Cod’s year-round residents, alarmed by an influx of out-of-state license plates amid the coronavirus outbreak, are petitioning for the shutdown of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges — to keep out vacation homeowners and avoid overwhelming their small hospitals.

A Change.org petition to close the bridges, which had nearly 5,000 signatures by Monday afternoon, states: “Stop the spread of covid-19 close the bridges. only year round residence, medical personnel. Trucks that deliver essential supplies. While we love our tourists and summer residents this is not the time to come to the cape, out hospital can’t handle it. We only have 2 small hospitals here on cape, and limited medical staff. keep the residences and elderly safe on cape.”

No, that was the barking of seals you heard.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That or a lot of group farting at the Chatham Squire Restaurant and Tavern ( take out available):

Imagine Cape Cod without any bars? Who would even want to go there?

I agree. I can see keeping tourists out (like they’ve done in the Keys) but property owners should not be restricted except if they’re sick...

Hard to stop the boat traffic (into the Keys).

True, but that's not how the vast majority of people get there.

If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air
Quaint little villages here and there
(You’re sure)You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod
(Cape Cod, that old Cape Cod)

If you like the taste of a lobster stew
Served by a window with an ocean view
(You’re sure)You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

Winding roads that seem to beckon you
Miles of green beneath a sky of blue
Church bells chimin’ on a Sunday morn
Remind you of the town where you were born

If you spend an evening you’ll want to stay
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

(aah, aah)

If you spend an evening you’ll want to stay (on Cape Cod Bay)
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod
You’re sure to fall in love
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

How kind of you. But no problem with new Yorkers buying your cheap houses and traveling ungodly hours by bus to work in Manhattan. My friends moved their 88 year old mother to NY. After years of PA benefits for retirees, shes now a NY resident. No way they were gonna pay PA estate tax.

True, but I don’t think those are the people they’re worrying about. It’s more the South Florida people...

Our immigration laws, from the beginning, did NOT allow the entry of sick individuals. Period...No exceptions.

Sac, even if you drove straight thru without stopping to pee or gas up, and took 2 weeks of food with you, if you get sick on the Cod, you’d have to get care there, putting strain on a locale that doesn’t need it.

Funny how all these liberal, Sanctuary states are suddenly discovering the usefulness of walls

Yup.

NIMBY sets in really fast.

It would help if the NYers brought in all their own supplies and food.

Then the pressure on the stores would not be so great.

But then again, that takes forethought and effort.

Actually started with a part time worker who also worked at Greenport Harbor Brewery, though I don’t know if it was the Greenport or Mattituck location.

Chatham has a lot of web cams linked off the Squire page at the bottom. You are right, its deathly quiet...I think 80% of the Cape is high risk...over 50.
