How many of you have ever known someone who had died of or been hospitalized with known or suspected flu?

I have seen vanity threads periodically over the past few months in which Freepers have asked other Freepers if they know anyone who either got or died of COVID-19.

I have no criticism of these vanity posts; in fact, I've posted responses to a couple.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone ask if anyone knows anyone who has died of the flu or had to be hospitalized with it EVER, so for some perspective I'm asking.

Of these people, how many were known to have had the flu due to a positive flu test and how many were suspected to have the flu in that they did not test positive for it but their symptoms were consistent with the flu during a period when the flu was prevalent in their area and tests did not turn up positive for any other identifiable illness?

I have known about twenty people who have died of known or suspected flu, including my own mother during the H1N1 days.

No virus. No flu. Maybe we come from a hardy stock.

Simple solution to the pandemic,,,,Make HCQ and Azithromycin OTC drugs so anyone who develops a cough and/or fever can go the nearest drug store and self medicate with the drugs along with Zinc Sulfate with correct dosage within 48 hours of symptoms and pandemic over.,,,,,instead of waiting a few days to get tested and 5 days for the results,,,,if over 60 years of age,,,,you’re dead.

well my 100 yo mother and I both tested positive. She died after about a week. First time in 80 years I had been present at a deathbed.

I’m still kicking although a poster boy for the target of the virus: 80, heart disease, diabetes 2, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low morals.

all my vitals remained in the normal range and now just waiting to see where the quarantine takes me.I got ahold of some of that Hydroxy stuff and supporting drugs though the only doctor in Dallas and pharmacy that would fill the prescriptions. Felt like I was going to an underground oxycodone ring to be honest.

I’m taking the attitude of the Honey Badger. I don’t give a F-—.

4 deaths + 3 hospitalizations
4 deaths were in NY/NJ.
3 hospitalizations were in the South.

I lost a good friend to Covid-19 early on. And I have known 2 others who had it and recovered, several more who were exposed. I live in a small town.

I don’t even know anyone who has been diagnosed with it.

And I don’t know anyone who knows anyone who has died of it.

I should specify that mine were the flu. I only stated the ones for the funerals I attended.

A sweet Christian lady I worked with died of the flu a couple of years ago. She lived alone and didn’t show up for work. Very sad. Maybe she could have made it if she had someone to make her go to the hospital?

Both my Boss (late 30’s) and his young daughter (7) tested positive, the daughter was asymptomatic, my boss said he had a fever, some aches and a scratchy throat on the back end, but otherwise it was no worse that any other bug floating around, he did his quarantine period and is now back to work.

A parent of mine survived COVID. Given her age and underlying health conditions ...
