WASHINGTON, Sunday, Jan. 20.

There is no danger of an attack upon fort Monroe. I learn that it is fully garrisoned with from five to six hundred men. Being where Gen. SCOTT can easily issue orders to them, there is no necessity for apprehension as regards that fortification, as has been suggested in many of the papers.

Another company of United States troops arrived Saturday night and are stationed at an armory on Pennsylvania-avenue, near the National Hotel, where there were several stands of Government arms.

Many gentlemen express the belief that although Gen. SCOTT and Capt. STONE have been doing all in their power to protect this District, that the measures adopted by them are not sufficient to overawe any mob which might make an attack upon the Government property in this city or attempt to seize the archives of the Government, without the use of which for a single day the machinery of the Government would be crippled at once. For this reason Gen. SCOTT has been waited upon and urged to accept the proffered services of enough volunteer militia to resist all mobs or military forces which could be sent against the peace of the District. My impression is that his own judgment is the best, and that he will follow it.

It was proposed by the State troops at Pensacola to attack Fort Pickens, and it is asserted here that they were only prevented by letters and dispatches from this city. I understand that Senator YULEE has still some apprehension that an attack will be made.

Lieut. HALL has returned here, and awaits the termination of Col. HAYNE's mission before proceeding southward.

Some gentlemen are very indignant because the proceedings of the Senate executive session of Friday became public.

It should be noted that Fort Pickens never fell to the Johnny Rebs.

I’ve been to Fort Barrancas (which fell several weeks back in late 1860). Just across Pensocola Bay, which is very close to the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the Pensacola Lighthouse Museum. However we didn’t get to visit Fort Pickens.

In particular, the historical similarities between Bleeding Kansas (the precursor to the War Between the States) and the Proud Boys-Antifa conflict are particularly unsettling, but insightful.
