The 14-year-old son of a pizza shop employee shot one of three would-be robbers in the face after he started choking his mom in Philadelphia, police said
Police arrived at the shop in the Spring Garden neighborhood shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday and noticed a trail of blood that began inside the restaurant and went on for three blocks into the subway station at Broad and Spring Garden streets.
The employee told police three men had entered and demanded money from the cash register, which she told them she couldn’t open because she needed a code.
Other employees said one of the men tried to reach over the counter and then began choking the woman, prompting her son to pull out a handgun from underneath the counter and shoot the alleged attacker once in the face, according to police.
All three men then ran off.
Responding officers followed the blood trail to the subway station, where they found the suspect bleeding heavily. Police also found a large amount of cash inside the suspect’s pocket, though they did not find a gun. Investigators are unsure if the suspect was armed during the robbery or if he pretended to have a weapon.
The suspect was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
Police said the same suspect was likely involved in another robbery that took place about five minutes prior at a nearby pharmacy on the 400 block of North Broad Street, about two blocks away from the pizza shop. During that incident, three men entered the store and robbed the pharmacy.

Going back 25 years ago I knew a guy who managed a chain Italian restaurant. One of his guys left the back door open while taking out the trash and a gunman came in demanding the safe be opened.
My armed friend fired first hitting him in the face. Went in one cheek took out some teeth and existed through the upper part of the other cheek.
The guy lived and served 10 years. The first couple of years he was out of jail my friend was paranoid and watched his back all the time. Things have settled down since then.
According to the story, his mother was being choked by the guy; he may have taken the only shot possible.
Good point, the young man showed adaptability under stress. He’s got potential.
No, it was not; but that's funny!
Why include “Trump stolen”, in your list of good things?
Years ago, there were break ins around where my buddy owned a cabin. Mostly fishing, camping gear. Couple of guys across the road had been broken into too.
They were at their cabin and had left to go to town and when they came back, someone had broken in. They figured the robber was close so they started looking for him in the timber and they found his camp with a tent made out of a tarp.
The homeless guy pulled out a .22 and told them to drop on their knees. One of the guys had a .38 in the small of his back and when he dropped to his knees, he grabbed the gun and unloaded on the guy.
He told us later that after he unloaded, he was still pulling the trigger because of the adrenaline. And no, the homeless guy did not survive.
A co-worker got shot in the forehead while helping out at his FIL’s liquor store. When the police got there he was in the street, standing over the unconscious perp.
It was only a .25, but we still made many “bonehead” jokes.
I say “only a .25” but I still wouldn’t recommend it.
“Now, you’re going to feel a little pinch.”
Welcome to the House of Ritten. How may I serve you?
He walked that off rather well. 3 blocks? I’m impressed.
The suspect was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
This story makes me happy for the family, and I hope these criminals get right with God.
How did the perp get on the ground? Did your co-worker plug him, or deck him?
