I had the day off today and I noticed that all the news programs are calling it Lunar New Year rather than Chinese New Year.

If you are a follower of the ancient Roman calendar, you would know that February 1 is the new year, which of course is a lunar calendar new year.
Hap. . . . .py new year !!!!

Posting Wikipedia as authoritative?
And no, it’s not a stupid vanity to take note of a phrase like “Chinese New Year” suddenly leaving parlance in media and online.

I’ve been getting videos from my Chinese co-workers lighting their fireworks. They invited them. 👍

Lunar New Year doesn't belong to the Chinese.
It is celebrated in China, Vietnam, Korea, and even Mongolia.
To: CtBigPat
It’s been called that for years, and not just in the USA.

Lunar New Year is a Korean term. It’s not even a direct translation but expresses what it means.
Chinese and Vietnamese call it Spring Festival.
Japanese stopped celebrating it for the most part.

Chinese and Vietnamese call it Spring Festival. Only the Chinese in Mainland China.
The Chinese in Taiwan and Hong Kong just call it "New Year."
The Japanese just moved the dates to Jan. 1-3 to coincide with the Western calendar.

Wrong.
Sorry, I’m not trying to sound harsh. You’re just wrong. Tet is Spring, short for Festival or celebration.
I guess Vietnam calls it first day celebration, not literally new year.
None actually call it new year but the do say happy new year, although I think that’s more modern and is borrowed from our western tradition.

The Jewish followed a lunar calendar, festivals followed lunar cycles.

It’s lunar new year all over the world. Do they celebrate “Chinese” new year in Vietnam?

Just a little overly sensitive on an observation of media bias, huh? I’ve noticed it, too.
Bias much?

Koreans call it lunar new year. Chinese and Vietnamese call it spring festival. And in China it is a really fun holiday, especially if you like fireworks.
