“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.

The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult.

To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

C. S. Lewis

Congrats on your healing. I’ve been only eating meat & drinking water for 1425 days with zero downside experienced. I’ve been 100% symptom free for over 3.5 years & every day continues to be better than the day before.

Regarding Cannabis: A) it should be up to states to decide whether it is legal to have & use or not & B) It is not for everyone C) everyone who uses cannabis is not a bum or a loser in life.

Evidence? How about 40+ years of experience? Your experts can’t even decide if coffee is safe to drink. C’mon.

Btw, you’re the guy who believes alcohol is just as dangerous and deadly as pot. Right?

Agreed, except as to A. Complete legalization in one state easily and inevitably creates a source and sanctuary for marijuana trafficking into other states where marijuana is illegal.

That’s bullshit. That’s a nanny state leftist authoritarian argument.

Authoritarianism = Obama, Biden, Bush etc. That’s not freedom. It’s evil.

What about the rights of states that do not want marijuana to be legal? Unfortunately, marijuana grown in a state that makes it broadly legal to grow and use does not stay in that state but gets trafficked to states where it is illegal and highly profitable.

The best but wholly unsatisfying compromise is to restrict the growing of and access to recreational marijuana where it is legal so as to inhibit large scale, unregulated grow operations that are conducive to illegal trafficking. Or, one can imagine a comprehensively regulated marijuana industry with the growing and sale of marijuana otherwise illegal.

If one thinks the issues through, schemes of partial and patchwork legalization for marijuana require more not less regulation and policing if they are to have a hope of working as claimed. One gets the sense that many advocates of such measures realize this and expect them to prove so expensive and problematic as to be little more than halfway measures toward full legalization.

“What about the rights of states that do not want marijuana to be legal?”

They have the right per the Constitution to not allow legal use of cannabis. They do not have the right to dictate to a neighboring state what they should or should not allow.

Authoritarianism is evil. Nanny state BS is evil. I have nothing further to say to anyone who promotes either.

Stay the hell away from Florida. We don’t need your kind of evil. Voters decided to make medical cannabis available & NONE of the “weed is evil” predictions have come to pass. Leave me, mine & my state alone!

I am a Floridian, most likely for longer than you, and with a better grounding in the history and politics of the marijuana issue. And if you had read my posts on this thread, you would know that I voted for medical marijuana when it was on the ballot.

A self-proclaimed authority = no credibility. Take care

See, just like I said, sometimes marijuana makes one angry, not mellow.

Lovely use of fallacy. You have no means of knowing how cannabis affects me & its likely you never will.

You proved your lack of credibility once again. Hilarious!

You did neither. You did what most prohibitionists do in my experience when discussing these issues. Talk long enough & self proclaimed “authorities” & always start pulling out fallacies. Fallacy = intellectual dishonesty = no credibility.

I claim no authority for myself. My consistent recommendation has been for those engaged on the subject to think with an open mind and to review the and asses current medical and other scientific evidence on marijuana. On balance, I believe that it shows broad harmful effects and some limited medical benefits.

Remarkably, marijuana advocates commonly seem to reject looking at the evidence. You call this "pulling out fallacies."

In contrast, the experience of friends and my review of the evidence over the years led me to gradually embrace and vote for medical marijuana in Florida, albeit while continuing to oppose broad legalization. This makes for messy and contentious debates and unsettled policy that will continue to evolve with experience and evidence.

Incorrect. I've been placing surreptitious cameras and microphones throughout your house. I know things you don't know about yourself.

“Remarkably, marijuana advocates commonly seem to reject looking at the evidence.”

Present some actual evidence that isn’t bought & paid for propaganda by either side of the issue AND isn’t behind a paywall & see if you notice a different reaction.

“You call this “pulling out fallacies.”

Fake news also. I call the use of fallacies intellectual dishonesty & your so called “jibe” was fallacious in addition to not being humorous.

More freedom is always better than less.

I will not try to convince you against your will. What I urge is that you investigate the medical evidence for yourself by running searches on the internet using the terms marijuana and violence and marijuana and mental illness.

To get specific professional medical evidence, run those searches in magazine databases and in the online PubMed database of medical articles. That is free, as are many of the articles. A free local library card or public local librarian or a college or university librarian can get you free copies of almost any newspaper, magazine, and medical journal articles that are behind a paywall.

If you are worried about bias, check the funding disclosures in the medical journal articles and the background of the researchers. Many studies, especially in Europe, are funded by government agencies and private foundations. Ultimately, the best corrective for bias and error is free minds and open debate.

On the net, if you are honest with yourself, I believe that you will find substantial evidence for marijuana as a cause or major factor in violence, mental illness, and other harms. In fairness, there are contrary arguments and studies, but they seem to be diminishing in number and qualified by acknowledgement of the harms of marijuana for a substantial segment of the population. I believe that a credible case can be made though for regulated medical marijuana, or at least that is what it seemed to me.

"More freedom is always better than less." Where then do you draw the line? Against heroin and fentanyl, I hope? Against the trafficking of children and pedophilia? Against rape? Ringing abstract propositions often fail when put to the tests of experience and reason.

You talk a lot without saying anything of value while making ASSumptions about what information someone you have never met or knows has researched or not.

Then you are arrogant suggesting how and what I should use in a search lololololololol. Pitiful is you.
