2001? A wrinkle in time? I, Robot?

What are the best science for books in your opinion?

Glen Cook’s Annals of the Black Company is superb! I’ve read them all several times.

I would like to see Ringworld done as a series on a streaming service. There is enough there to keep several seasons going and with CGI it could look great. The Kzinti would look amazing and Teela could be the “strong female character” required on all shows. Nessus would no longer be a challenge to make look believable.

Thank you for this thread!

You seek the impossible IMneverHO.

I could possibly narrow it down to 3 authors but that would miss sooooo much.

Here are a few so far unmentioned stories from mentioned authors.

Larry Niven “A World Out of Time”
Is his short story ‘Rammer’ made into a novel.
Also by Niven,
“The Long ARM of Gil Hamilton” and
“The Last Days of the Permanent Floating Riot Club”
My ficticious alter ego is a ‘Childless Protector’.

Robert A. Heinlein “Starman Jones”

Clifford D. Simak “The Big Front Yard”
This story can be found in the book ‘Over the River and Through the Woods’

Isaac Asimov “The Currents of Space”

As I age and reading becomes a challenge I have been collecting audiobooks. One good source of sci-fi stories is
https://librivox.org/

The best part of getting old and forgetfull is that I get to re-enjoy my favorites a second time as if they were new.
Sad/NOTsad but true.

Oh that’s cool!

I read all those as a teen in the mid-70s. I think I threw them out some years ago as they were badly yellowing acid paper paperbacks plus the glue bindings falling apart.

Excellent picks. The whole list could just be Heinlein books

Thanks for the tip!   It was a great read.   Others have picked up on the theme but the prescience from the time of our great grandparents is impressive.   Ayn Rand's Anthem is as impactful for me.

Agree! What our mind’s eyes see in our heads would look great on the screen.

I’m surprised Gateway from Frederik Pohl hasn’t been mentioned so I’ll toss that one in.
Who doesn’t want to be Lazarus Long? So, Time Enough For Love.
Ring world is right up there, and I of course have to mention the World Of Tiers universe(s) by Philip José Farmer.

Other than the implausibility inherent in any paranormal crap that wind up on sci-fi (which is, after all, a branch of the horror genre), I’ve always thought this one pushed many of the right buttons, and one really wrong one.
