Maybe not top 3, but Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke has always been at the top of my list.

Whew! Thought about revisiting them but just getting restarted on the “Left Behind” series. Mrs rktman found prequels and sequel. 15 books if i can count. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘

I read the original one. I was unaware there was a sequel.

Yeah, the movie was lacking, but an even greater travesty was the “I Robot” movie, which was an abomination of Isaac Asimov’s book, which was part of his foundation series.

Science Fiction is often best read as an adolescent and therefore some of the most memorable and significant works in a readers lifelong list are going to be less than undying adult literature. That does not mean they arenโ€™t great but just when comparing them to other genre you have a disconnect.

I've wondered about that before... rereading some of my favorites was oddly disappointing. Thanks for the insight. That said, The Weapon Shops Series by A.E. van Vogt aged better than many...

I'd have put Orwell's 1984 in my list, but I don't think the original poster asked for Democrat training manuals.

I wish 1984 was still fictionโ€ฆ

The Andromeda Strain. One of only two books that I’ve read cover-to-cover without putting it down. The other was The Omen.
