I liked Foundation and just about all the other pre-1970 Sci-fi books that will be mentioned in this thread, but the Sci-fi book that changed my life was the 1909 book “The Machine Stops” by E. M. Forster, which I read as a boy.

Honorable Mention to Lucifer’s Hammer and Dragon’s Egg (possibly the best scifi from a real hard science perspective)

We have similar taste. Loved both series. Read them when I was a teen.
I never had high expectations for the movie but it was mediocre. Harrison Ford could have done better. But he's no longer in his prime, he's just doing movies for the money. They should have casted Tom Cruise. He was terrific in Edge Of Tomorrow and I think he would have brought that to Ender's Game.
Adjusted for Inflation Wild Wild West probably ranks as one of the biggest flops up there. That was a hugely expensive film when it was made, at least $150 Million or more and it bombed big time.
The first Dune book was good.
He should have stopped there instead of trying to milk it.

I liked Will Smith. He didn't take himself too seriously so he was entertaining. He has (or had?) charisma.
Look at James Bond. Fans are tired of Daniel Craig. He takes himself too seriously. His movies are too depressing. (The writing is not great outside of Casino Royale). Pierre Brosan was fun. He kicked @$$ but he got all the chicks too.

I’ve always disliked the “3 best”, “10 best”, “etc. best” categories about any given subject. Science fiction throws a very big net.
I did miss it if anyone mentioned “I, Robot”. which is another good series by Asimov.
‘Against the Fall of Night’ by Arthur C Clarke and its rewrite ‘The City and the Stars’ are memorable ones from my childhood that haven’t been mentioned yet.
A lot of good books being mentioned.
