EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

Pain!
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer
Pain!
You break me down and build me up, believer, believer
Pain!
Oh, let the bullets fly, oh, let them rain
My life, my love, my drive, it came from...
Pain!
You made me a, you made me a believer, believer

-Imagine Dragons

I have no idea what any of that means, but it’s what I thought of.

I’ve never really understood poetry.

That reminds me of an old story... two guys from an engineering firm in the Northeast are on a swing through Texas visiting clients and prospects.... Epstein and O’Brien... they often traveled together on these out of state trips...

They flew into DFW and picked up their rental car and headed to the first appointment... unfortunately they got side-swipped by a youngster in a pickup truck and ended up in a ditch within an hour of landing... it wasn’t too bad but both airbags deployed and they were a bit bruised and banged up...

Ambulance takes them to the nearest hospital ER to get checked out and cleaned up...

Turns out they are both fine... a couple of slight bruises and some minor lacerations, but quite a bit of pain in the head and neck from the trauma... they are cleaned up and bandaged and given a mild pain reliever and told to sit for a while until they can be released...

Both are a bit antsy and on their cell phones rescheduling meetings and securing another rental car... anxious to put this unfortunate mishap behind them and get on with the business of their trip...

The recovery nurse comes in after a bit of time and asks in her very Texas accent, “How’s y’all paaaaa-innnn?”

Both are taken aback by what they feel is an intrusive question, Epstein, a bit flustered, replies, “I’m sure that our company medical insurance will cover all of this....” O’Brien sniffs, “Not that it is any concern of yours, ma’am....”

The nurse is a bit surprised by what she thinks are flippant and a bit nutty responses... she tells them to sit tight and asks the doctor to order more scans on their heads....

😂

Good morning and Happy Friday Eve! (Sort of like a Friday for me; I’m off for Veterans Day tomorrow.)

I hope everyone is feeling good today. ‘Face, I hate to hear about your discs and associated pain issues and of course, I keep you in my prayers. And Tax-Chick, I’m glad to hear that you continue to improve and pray that keeps up.

We’re supposed to get rain most of tomorrow and then high temperatures in the 50s all through next week. Lows in the upper 30s on some of those days. I may have to turn on the heater. We’ll see. I dread that dust smell that accompanies the first seasonal use of the heater.

I missed yesterday; work was CRAZY! Every time I thought I had a chance to catch up on here, something popped up.

Congratulations on the 2s yesterday, ‘Face and zzeeman! And the two threes in a row, ArGee!

Got a three yesterday and a four today.

It took over a year to convince my doctor that my weird shape finger nail was the problem. I wanted to go back and tell him “I told you so.” But I had new insurance that didn’t cover him.

You don't need an appointment to burst into his office and give him the finger...

Good job on the Wordles! I’m curious as to how you managed to save yesterday’s to be posted with today’s, though.

Our weather is just slipping into darkness (someone oughta write a song about that!) with the cold, and I’m not happy about it at all. Of course, out west, they’re having freezing weather, but I would be ready for that! At least it’s dry cold.

I was told, way back when I had spinal surgery when FS and FD were just barely in their teens, that it may cause the vertebrae above to carry the weight and thus cause the same problem, requiring more surgery. I took it to mean “Etc., etc.,” and decided I’d see what happened.

I would still be blissfully ignorant were it not that the pain clinic here, because I had moved from out of state, believed I may be exaggerating the pain in order to get more pain pills.

So. Bottom line is this: The surgery could be done on someone who is much younger, but the arthritis complicates things, so surgery isn’t an option. All they can do is throw pain pills at it. Which is fine, because on most days, it allows me to get my housework done, and that’s all I care about. If I don’t get it done today, it will still be waiting for me tomorrow!

Thank you for your prayers! If they’re what’s keeping me cleaning the things that need to be cleaned (and they could very well be!) keep ‘em coming! :o])

When I lived in Houston one of my co-workers told me his kids were trying to learn the difference between “sit” and “set”.

He said, “In mah house they don standa chance.”

And only in Texas is a wax thing a kid colors with pronounced the same as what a king wears on his head.

You also made me think of a time (still in Houston) when one of those tank-like station wagons they used to make turned left a little to close to an oncoming new Toyota sedan. The impact made him miss the paved area across the drainage ditch that he was aiming for so he wound up going into the ditch and back up into the parking lot he was aiming for.

The Toyota had its airbags deployed and the front end collapsed. It had to be towed.

The station wagon? After its driver had his discussion with the police he drove his car on to wherever he was going.

We’re supposed to get rain starting this afternoon and continuing all day tomorrow. Last I checked, Saturday should be okay for James’s range officer training and the Spanish choir’s Quinceanera performance.

I’ve been listening to the tree service do whatever it is they’ve been hired to do to the pin oaks across the street for the last two days. Hopefully, I go out the door tomorrow morning and find an almost bare lot.

The storm we had Friday night must have put the fear of God into the owner of the properties because they’ve been at it all day for the last two days. I’m not happy about all the trees around this property, but all I have to do it think good thoughts and wait for the day when I can head west again.

Right now, I’m going to take my pills and head for the bedroom where the decibel level is quite a bit lower.

I hope you have a good night. I have a Zoom meeting tonight, and the Spanish volunteers do go on and on, but I had a nap, so I’ll make it.

It is raining, as forecast. It’s an edge of Tropical Storm Nicole that hit Florida.

Sorry about the rain, and I’m hoping my nephew and his wife in FL are OK. He made a megafortune in real estate, so they go wherever they want whenever they feel like it. They’ve even been to Antarctica!

I hope your evening isn’t as long as you expect and that you sleep well!

Thanks. Jake is trying to get me to go to bed with him, but he may have lost interest by the time I have the chance.

Disruption in the Spanish Volunteers Coordinating Committee! Lourdes and her husband are going to Mexico to take care of his father until January at least. Unnngh. Sometimes people go to Mexico and don’t come back. There’s been a lot of illness in their extended family. Hard lives.

I’m sorry to hear that. I was talking with one of my neighbors yesterday, and when she had gone back home to the Bahamas for two weeks, she said it was for a funeral, but it ended up being two funerals. Then she began to give me a family history of illness. Some families are just that way, I guess. Hard lives are usually short lives.

*sigh*

PW wants her outbound shuttle time changed to an earlier time because the driver was doing 20 miles under the speed limit. She’s afraid if she gets the same driver she’ll miss her flight. The shift changes around noon, so there is no way that could happen, but I’ll change it for her.

Although why she had to wait until midnight two days later to ask me is beyond me. I could call them now, but I won’t.
