Groceries for decades have been treating meat with carbon monoxide to keep it red and looking appetizing.

If you believe that before these clowns, no one understood that a food’s appearance affects how appetizing it is, I’ve got a bridge for sale you need to look at.

A printing company I know of that had a food account used fluorescent yellow ink along with the usual cyan, magenta and black in the color separations, and ran a fifth fountain of high-gloss varnish over the photos and a matte varnish over the black margins surrounding the photos on the page. Result: gorgeous and luscious photos of food that leapt off the page!

I don’t know what that poster was talking about... companies routinely use mash potatoes instead of ice cream during a shoot. Soups have steaming cotton balls placed behind them and glycerin is used to make burgers and steaks look juicy.
