Over the last several years, my liberal friends have become less and less comfortable with utilizing classical debating styles — you know, where one person proposes a theory, explains it thoroughly with facts and figures and then responds to any questions about the theory in a logical, rational way. This article develops a theory on why the vast majority of all liberals are currently atrocious debaters.
My wife and I have been lucky. We have developed many close friendships with lots of people over our lives. Some of these relationships are more recent, but many have lasted 20, 30, or even 40 years. We have over a dozen friends whom we try to stay in close contact with on a regular basis. About half of them are liberal; about half of them are conservative. Virtually no one seems to be dead in the middle anymore.
Recently, a new trend started to become obvious. For my conservative friends, roughly half of all their friends share conservative values, and half are liberal. But our liberal friends tend to have just one or two conservative friends, and they are no longer able to discuss political issues with their conservative friends, since the liberals tend to get too emotional when talking politics.
It is my belief that this inability to discuss political issues is because my liberal friends look only at online sites that share their worldview; they watch only TV news that reinforces their worldview; they discuss politics only with people who share their worldview; and they often look at social media that make them think the liberal view on a topic is the only rational one to have.

I will say that I have made some progress using Bible scripture. There is power in the Word that works above and beyond a human level.
The two liberals I have across the street are also atheists........funny how often those two things go together.
They yell, sweat, give out false stats, make up “reliable sources” and point their finger at your chest. Then say, “you don’t get it” and storm off.
Debate time is over. I don’t care anymore, I used to “tip toe” around looking to say the right thing. However, how do we debate evil intentions like grooming, drag queen bs and sexualizing kids? Debate time is done, it’s time to show them they’re radical and we are not looking for common ground.
Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out.

I tend to agree with you. In general, there is no use debating either politics or religion. All that happens is that everyone involved gets defensive, and upset.
And that’s why I usually try to change the subject.

Me: Who do you think has the best chance to win the Super Bowl this year?
There is, however, one exception to that. If the liberal is not completely close-minded, it’s sometimes worth trying an indirect argument.

I’ve actually had liberals end up agreeing with me here: Trump had at least one good idea.
White female leftists are just plain stupid. Black female leftists are violent and stupid. Leftist males are waiting for their cues from their females.
They can't argue their positions because they don't know how they arrived at them. And the few that are still rational in some parts of their lives (excluding their politics) are flummoxed when they see that their political positions are diametrically opposed to reality.
I have had more than one Leftie try to discuss (not debate, just politely discuss) and they quickly became frustrated because their political views were rationally indefensible.
One of those people, a very experienced cardiac nurse, said about climate change, it's "settled science." I asked her how science can be settled when it is the very nature of science to never cease digging into the mysteries of nature. In other words, is science ever settled?
She threw her hands up and stomped out of the room.
Big pet peeve and disappointment that it seems impossible to have an adult conversation about politics without the person on the Left driving the conversation downhill to hysterics, anger, and absolutely no reasoned argument whatsoever.
We lost very close friends because of their liberalism. Well actually they lost us. Got tiring of them touting Obamacare yet neither one would go on it. In 2016 they went after me about my preference of Trump over Hillary which set the stage for the end of our friendship. They had Hillary signs all over their property and when I asked them to name one good thing Hillary has done in 40 years they accused me of being sexist. When they asked me to name one thing Trump has done, I started with the Wolman Ice rink in NYC and went from there.
But I think it was the “If Hitler was a Democrat you would vote for him” that sealed the deal. That comment also had my in-laws not talking to me for 10 years.
These numbskulls scream "Democracy, democracy" but will not engage in one of the cornerstones of democracy, debate.
They are fascists that censure, use private companies "misinformation" labels to enforce one party rule and shut down the free and open exchange of ideas and opinions.
The go straight to namecalling since they cannot point to any successes in their beliefs.
The same way the war mongering FReepers act if you question our involvement in the Ukraine?...
