TSA Stops Woman from Bringing Boa Constrictor on Flight in Tampa

A Florida traveler tried to bring a real snake on a plane, claiming the animal was an emotional support pet.

The boa constrictor, named Bartholomew, was caught in someone’s carry-on luggage during security screening at the Tampa International Airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration. The 4-foot-long snake was found coiled up inside the bag in December along with other items for the trip, TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein told Travel + Leisure.

“Snake on a plane? This is a @TSA X-ray of Bartholomew, a boa constrictor who was in a traveler's carry-on bag at @FlyTPA last month,” Farbstein tweeted. “Woman claimed the snake was her emotional support pet. TSA notified the airline, which ruled that there was not going to be a snake on their plane!”

Following the bust, the agency posted on Instagram that airlines don’t allow snakes to travel in carry-on bags, “and only a few allow them to slither around in checked bags, if packaged correctly.”

“Has all this left you wanting to squeeze out more travel answers?” the TSA wrote in the post. “You can always mamba on over to our friends at AskTSA! They’ll rattle out responses to your questions 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. (ET).”

Well, that’s odd. Maybe the rules have changed. I never had a problem bringing my support giraffe on a plane.

There is a guy that I drive sometimes, who brings a ‘support lizard’ with him on his trips to dialysis. It is small enough that he carries it in a cat carrier. If he didn’t carry it in the carrier, he couldn’t bring it.

Don’t know how mohamedan cab drivers react, but I do know of some who have refused customers with service dogs. They have, on occasion, got punished for their actions, though not recently, from what I’ve heard.

I’m waiting for someone to claim they have a Kokomo Dragon as a ‘support animal’. Knowing how Canaduh operates, I could see it being approved as a ‘support animal’.

Aren’t boas an invasive species? Should have killed it and skinned it for boots.

If TSA won’t allow a boa constrictor how would they react to a support Colt Python?

“TSA Stops Woman from Bringing Boa Constrictor on Flight”

Is that a plug-in kind or battery operated?

I never knew the Beach Boys’ song was about a lizard!😁

Off the Florida Keys
there’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you wanna go
to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand,
tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love
to the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo

This stupidity/catering to every mentally weak person out there need to stop. The only animals that should be allowed in the passenger compartment on any commercial plane, train, or ship, should be accreditted service animals with the proper documentation. No more “emotional support” animals. If you are to emotional to travel without you pet emu, then I question their stability to be trusted on a plane at 35000 ft. No more emotional support animals, service animals welcome. And if you insist on bring you 4 ft emotional support croc on board, it should be in the baggage hold with the other pets...I mean “fake emotional crutches”

Good catch! I’m sure I wrote Komodo Dragon but the automatic spell check did its thing. My bad.
