Prayers please. Barefoot and in shorts….. I went out to pickup in the garage to retrieve my I pad . Decided to get handgun also….out of the console between seats. Leaned in and got them. Leaning back out and dropped the gun. Landed on the concrete in garage. One in the chamber, not cocked, on safety, and in a holster. It discharged into my left leg about half way between ankle and knee. Broke both bones. I mean completely. Did not hit an artery.
Gun was a 90’s model Springfield 45. It is a P9 series, double/single action, but chambered in 45 caliber. Im in hospital. Suppose to do surgery tomorrow.
So I can cross shooting myself with my own 45 off my bucket list.
Yeah, it hurt bad. Legion of police showed up when wife called 911. Rough ambulance ride to the hospital. I dont recommend this.
Appreciate all prayers. Thank you
I know people are in favor of keeping a gun chambered for reaction time purposes vs. an attacker, but things like this make me wary.
yikes....glad you’re here to tell us about it....good luck and get better soon....lesson for all of us...don’t leave your ipad in the truck.....
Oh you poor guy! Sure you’re in my prayers, but I think you have a lot of guts and will be just fine. God bless.
Yikes 😳

Prayers on the way. God bless.
Prayers. But how could it discharge like that? That shouldn’t be possible.
Landed on the hammer i assume. I didnt think that would be possible either
Aw, man…prayers up the bare minimum, if any pain or discomfort and for a speedy and full recovery. 🙏
Sorry that happened. Prayers sent. Heal fast and well.
Springfield P9 does not have a firing pin block, so not a drop safe firearm.
Hope you heal up!
Springfield apparently left out the firing pin block on P9s, even though they were based on a design that had them.

Hope they get the pain under control quickly. This is when having a spouse makes all the difference. Good luck to both of you. So sorry this happened.
Heavenly Father, How Great Thou Art! We thank You for Free Republic where we can corporately pray for those in need. We pray for kjam22 who had an unfortunate accident. We are thankful that the injury even though severe was not life theatening for him. We ask for Your guidance for those in his care. We pray for his comfort and that of his family during his time of recovery. May this be a time of testimony to Your Glory. In Jesus Name, Amen
Prayers! Ouch!!!

(and lucky you still have a lower leg attached!@)
The Springfield P9 in .45 is an early EAA Witness .45. The early Witness 9mm and .45s were voluntarily recalled due to a defective firing pin that would allow the firing pin safety to be installed in a position that rendered it invisibly inoperable, which is my guess as to what happened here. The other thing that would happen is that the firing pin would get stuck forward to varying degrees, leading to slamfires, runaways and (unsurprisingly) drop discharges.
