EXCLUSIVE: More than half of Republican voters want January 6 US Capitol offenders PARDONED - boosting a policy floated by Republican presidential rivals Trump and DeSantis

More than half of Republican voters support issuing pardons to those convicted of offenses during the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, a DailyMail.com/TIPP poll shows.

Fully 54 percent of GOP voters support nixing the convictions of those who breached the Capitol in early 2021 - a policy that's been floated by Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis as they joust for the party's presidential nomination.

Across all respondents, however, only 34 percent supported pardons for those who rioted that day, while 57 percent oppose the idea, according to our survey of nearly 1,400 adults.

As many as 2,000 people took part in the effort to overturn then-president Trump's electoral defeat to Joe Biden, a Democrat. Some of those who took part have said they were patriots who were misled.

More than 1,000 people have been charged with various assault, conspiracy, property damage, and restricted area offenses, official figures show. More than 500 have been convicted.

Former president Trump last month said that he would pardon a 'large portion' of those convicted of federal January 6 offenses if he was elected commander-in-chief again in 2024.

'I am inclined to pardon many of them,' Trump told a town hall gathering in New Hampshire.

'I can't say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control.'

Days later, Trump's only serious challenger in the crowded field of Republicans seeking the party's nomination, Florida Gov DeSantis, dangled a similar offer before primary voters.

Speaking on a conservative talk radio show, DeSantis vowed to examine cases of January 6 rioters, pro-life activists and parents arrested over their actions at school board meetings, and be 'aggressive' in issuing pardons.

'We will use the pardon power - and I will do that at the front end,' said DeSantis.

Trump and DeSantis call for pardons, but true to form, Mike Pennies says no.

He should be pardoned but they made sure he was convicted of both state and federal offenses to ensure that the President could not pardon him.

I do not want them all pardoned, some were truly engaged in violent destructive and illegal behavior.. but if your only crimn was you entered the capital through open doors and millled around and wound up with the book thrown at you, rather than an appropriate sentence for your acts then yes you should be pardoned and if you haven’t even made it to trial yet and still incarcerated for such low level acts absolutely

Believe it’s a case by case based not a blanket no one will face consequences for anything

I also want Ashley Babbitt killer to face charges.

I would like to see Pelosi and company charged with corruption for how they willfully mishandled the whole thing.

J6 protestors should be treated the same way other participants in demonstrations that go bad are treated. Those guilty of no more than trespass should be given light sentences, such as a six-month suspended sentence (which means that their conviction goes away after six months if they keep their nose clean). Those convicted of vandalism or assault, more severe sentences in accord with the seriousness of the offense. As it is, the feds got vindictiveness. The protestors - many of whom had no prior criminal record, were taxpayers, veterans, even members of law enforcement - were described as insurrectionists. The truth is, it’s kind of natural for losers of elections to question the election. The truth is, Hillary Clinton and other Democrats vigorously attempted to overturn the election of 2016. The truth is, shopkeepers in big cities boarded up their stores in anticipation of widespread rioting if Trump had been re-elected in 2020. The truth is, the FBI illegally joined with the Democrats to harass Trump starting in 2016 and continuing through 2020. It is time to reform federal law enforcement, and put this episode behind us, and reviewing the J6 cases and other cases of federal overreach is a needed part of putting this episode behind us.

I absolutely want this. DAY ONE - ALL OF THEM. And I want that bastard that murdered Ashli Babbitt put on trial. Don’t believe there’s any legal bar to that but I suppose I could be wrong.

I don’t just want them pardoned—I want them to get cash damages from anyone who assisted in their persecution.

That would include all members of the J6 Congressional Committee—who should pay out of their own pockets or replace the political prisoners in prison.

I agree Pelosi baited the trap and like most illegal traps she should be charged for each hour those people were incarcerated.

Only half support this? That’s not a good portend for any Republican election victories. The base is too fractured and won’t fully support any single issue. The dems on the other hand are usually %90+ in agreement on their stuff.

Most of the American public are ignorant when it comes to the facts surrounding J6 and the kangaroo courts that sentenced the so-called insurrectionists. It is imperative that the GOP- controlled House investigate J6 to counter the Dem/MSM propaganda. Time to release all of the video material to the public.

The treatment of the J6 prisoners is the greatest deprivation of civil liberties in US history, including the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. The judicial system has been weaponized beyond belief.

Pardoned and made whole. Getting jobs back and paid for all lost time at triple (No, ten times) their normal wages.

It should be case-by-case, but many/most should be pardoned.

My hunch is that there were some people there...at least a few...who deserve punishments of one degree or another. But it's obvious that the US Attorney in DC has been given instructions to "take no prisoners".

Most should be pardoned...perhaps even close to all of them.
