Americans are in love with sketchy, unregulated supplements — here are 6 that actually work

Americans may love to eat junk, but we’re nearly as passionate about doing penance, with more than half of us scarfing down dietary supplements on a regular basis.

From herbal remedies to energy boosters, vitamins and weight-loss pills, supplements form a massive global industry — one that’s expected to reach $200 billion in value by 2025, according to the AMA Journal of Ethics.

Trouble is, it’s a largely “Wild West” scene — and that’s by design, believe it or not. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 limits the ability of the Food and Drug Administration to regulate products marketed as dietary supplements.

By hobbling the FDA, manufacturers are able to sell their modern-day potions and miracle cures without any evidence of their potency, safety or effectiveness.

Yep, whey protein, one of the other supplements that’s work (and is a must, especially if you’re throwing weights around) L-Gluatamine and nitric oxide are my other ones.

The title is a lie. Dietary supplements are regulated, not only by the FDA but by the industry, itself, as it is not run similarly to a Monopoly, that is Big Pharma.

I research all my supplements and currently taking 7, one of which, after talking with my doctors, is now being considered at a well known hospital. It takes a lot of work to find excellent supplements.

I was just diagnosed with Arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and having some bad symptoms, so I’m looking for anything that will help.

Back when I had "the 'Rona"*, nurse with my primary care dr. at the local health borg actually recommended I tank up on C, D3 and zinc, and lycine.

No - never heard about it and I just read about it so thanks. I will talk with my doctor about it.

I’m getting some blood pressure tests on my legs soon, to provide a better idea of how bad this is. My arteries show up in xrays, and they say it’s from years of taking warfarin. I don’t know if that’s true - I haven’t taken warfarin in 6 years.

—-> No matter what one watches on the conservative tv shows these days then they are all loaded with people trying to sell herbs and whatever.

And only a fraction of the non-stop drug commercials.

I swapped warfarin for nattokinase 6 years ago and haven’t had a clot since (had 8 before that). I’ll check out Koncentrated K and Serrapeptase. Thanks.

Been taking an aspirin a day since 1969. Carotids like new. Been taking quercetin since 1971. Don’t know if it attacked hardening of arteries, but I’m still alive.

It must be a conservative thing. There’s ads all over the place. I take several supplements: bacon, butter, steak, and potatoes

“I am not talking about his pillows and such.. Dim wit.”

What do you think Lindell, who you named, is doing? He is selling, which you pointed out? What do you think he is selling? Pillows.

You are the dimwit. You can’t even understand the logic of your own words.

Another common advertisement in the conservative to alt-right media are sellers of gold and silver. From right of center shows like Hugh Hewitt to the fringe conspiracist podcasts, you will hear ads for precious metals. Even as far back as the 1990s, major corporate advertisers were staying away from talk radio, even for shows like Rush Limbaugh with audiences of millions. Conservative talk radio was and still is largely supported by local businesses in the market areas of the radio stations that broadcast these talk shows. The plumbing contractor or local insurance agent was not vulnerable to liberal pressure or harassment, unlike the Fortune 500 firms.

Where Pfizer or Bank of America shun, the alternative medicine and precious metal vendors thrive.
