"Agenda" at Skrewool Board Meeting Tonight at Grandsons Elementary School.
Iredell County School District, North Carolina ^ | 10/11/2023 | Self/school district

Posted on 10/09/2023 5:47:52 AM PDT by mabarker1

Grandma took Grandson to school this morning and found out that it's a Teacher in Service Day (that's what it was called back in My days in school anyway) so they returned home. This is the 2nd time that this has happened. I asked why don't they put this information on the Monthly Calendar so We know about it. Grandma said that they expect someone to check the School Website to find out. So I asked what was the site Name and I will check for this since I'm online a LOT.

When I got to the site it was on the homepage and next to it was a link for a School Board Meeting Tonight so I thought I would check it out and see what they are up too and found the "Agenda" and being Me, I read between the lines and found things to be "interesting" for lack of a better word. I have Marked the items that I find "interesting" in BOLD and would like input from others on those items as well as anything else that FReepers might find "interesting" in their opinion. Thanks in advance. So the Link is here and I will Post the Text in Post #1.

You can drive a truck through this law.

https://www.lawserver.com/law/state/north-carolina/nc-laws/north_carolina_laws_143-318-11

North Carolina General Statutes 143-318.11. Closed sessions

(a) Permitted Purposes. – It is the policy of this State that closed sessions shall be held only when required to permit a public body to act in the public interest as permitted in this section. A public body may hold a closed session and exclude the public only when a closed session is required:

(1) To prevent the disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential pursuant to the law of this State or of the United States, or not considered a public record within the meaning of Chapter 132 of the N.C. Gen. Stat..

(2) To prevent the premature disclosure of an honorary degree, scholarship, prize, or similar award.

(3) To consult with an attorney employed or retained by the public body in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the public body, which privilege is hereby acknowledged. General policy matters may not be discussed in a closed session and nothing herein shall be construed to permit a public body to close a meeting that otherwise would be open merely because an attorney employed or retained by the public body is a participant. The public body may consider and give instructions to an attorney concerning the handling or settlement of a claim, judicial action, mediation, arbitration, or administrative procedure. If the public body has approved or considered a settlement, other than a malpractice settlement by or on behalf of a hospital, in closed session, the terms of that settlement shall be reported to the public body and entered into its minutes as soon as possible within a reasonable time after the settlement is concluded.

(4) To discuss matters relating to the location or expansion of industries or other businesses in the area served by the public body, including agreement on a tentative list of economic development incentives that may be offered by the public body in negotiations, or to discuss matters relating to military installation closure or realignment. Any action approving the signing of an economic development contract or commitment, or the action authorizing the payment of economic development expenditures, shall be taken in an open session.

(5) To establish, or to instruct the public body’s staff or negotiating agents concerning the position to be taken by or on behalf of the public body in negotiating (i) the price and other material terms of a contract or proposed contract for the acquisition of real property by purchase, option, exchange, or lease; or (ii) the amount of compensation and other material terms of an employment contract or proposed employment contract.

(6) To consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, conditions of appointment, or conditions of initial employment of an individual public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee; or to hear or investigate a complaint, charge, or grievance by or against an individual public officer or employee. General personnel policy issues may not be considered in a closed session. A public body may not consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, appointment, or removal of a member of the public body or another body and may not consider or fill a vacancy among its own membership except in an open meeting. Final action making an appointment or discharge or removal by a public body having final authority for the appointment or discharge or removal shall be taken in an open meeting.

(7) To plan, conduct, or hear reports concerning investigations of alleged criminal misconduct.

(8) To formulate plans by a local board of education relating to emergency response to incidents of school violence or to formulate and adopt the school safety components of school improvement plans by a local board of education or a school improvement team.

(9) To discuss and take action regarding plans to protect public safety as it relates to existing or potential terrorist activity and to receive briefings by staff members, legal counsel, or law enforcement or emergency service officials concerning actions taken or to be taken to respond to such activity.

(10) To view a recording released pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 132-1.4A.

perhaps, but we need to support those parents who are attempting to reform the corrupt failed public school system.

School board elections. You get what you ask for. All the public input at meetings just emboldens them, satisfying their last for leftist craziness. If they could they would serve bugs for lunches, and get thrills from it.

You’ll never see what you have highlighted since the motion will be to accept the consent agenda as presented without discussion on any one item.
You would need to see a board packet for the details.

Dr Mizelle appears to have pursued his graduate and doctoral studies at devoutly Christian institutions, which is always a good sign in this day and age.

They should add a paragraph...

(11) To plan, conduct, or hear reports concerning the transfer, to another school, of any trans-female students alleged to have raped an actual female student on school property.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

found out that it's a Teacher in Service Day (that's what it was called back in My days in school anyway)

Well, back in my days in school, teachers didn't have In Service Days. They were expected to teach, albeit, only 9 months a year.

"we need to support those parents who are attempting to reform the corrupt failed public school system."

It's never going to happen. Parents have been talking about "reforming" the public school system since my children were little, yet the schools get worse and worse. When parents keep their children in public school, they support the agenda, whether they think they are or not.

Do what the politicians do, ignore what they say.

That means private school if you can afford it and have one you approve, homeschooling if you cannot or do not.

Public schools produce ignorant brainwashed fools and are child abuse.

There is nothing left to “fix”.

Primary Years Programme

Coddle Creek Elementary is an IBO World School offering the Primary Years Programme. Our International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an approach of teaching and learning that engages students actively while encouraging them to think critically and take action in their own world. Through this program, students become internationally-minded thinkers, and inquirers who ask questions, and seek answers with a global perspective.

The Primary Years Programme fosters a love for learning by nurturing students’ natural curiosity. The curriculum is a rigorous, inquiry-based program that empowers students to take action to create a better, more peaceful world. We encourage students to grow in their confidence and self-motivation through acceptance of our differences. In addition to this, Foreign Language: Spanish is provided to our CCE students as an enhancement.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status provides no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
