Biden is Blocking Israeli Ground Assault on Hamas
Front Page Magazine ^ | 23 Oct, 2023 | Daniel Greenfield

U.S. and European governments have joined to put pressure on Israel.

Some are wondering why Israel hasn’t begun the ground assault on Hamas yet. The answer is in Washington D.C.

After the Hamas atrocities, Israel went on a full war footing. 300,000 Israelis have been evacuated from front line areas and the IDF mobilized 300,000 troops. Those are people who are not with their families or working, some flew in from abroad. This makes Israel one of the most mobilized nations in the world. But it can’t keep that up forever.

But instead of going in, everyone is waiting because D.C. and the EU want to hold off an assault on Hamas.

U.S. and European governments have joined to put pressure on Israel to hold off on its ground invasion of Gaza to allow more time to win the release of hostages held by Hamas, U.S. and foreign officials said.

Several countries have been trying to leverage their contacts with Hamas to press the militant group to release the hostages taken during their onslaught on Israel earlier this month. One U.S. official had said that Qatar’s government had been very helpful on the matter, but noted the difficulties of reaching an agreement given Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and the spiraling humanitarian crisis there.

Qatar is a state sponsor of Hamas. It’s harboring Hamas leaders. Before the Hamas attack on Israel, Qatar very helpfully negotiated a truce.

And now that the U.S. and the EU have made it clear that they can stop Israel from taking out Hamas as leverage for the hostages, Hamas has no reason to release the hostages.

Those hostages are the only reason IDF soldiers aren’t in Gaza City right now.

Rather than securing their release, they’ve made them more valuable as hostages.

What did Hamas buy with the release of two female American hostages? The conviction by D.C. diplomats that they can get more released if they just spend more time negotiating with Hamas.

So, Biden wants to continue to pour money into a feckless, failed proxy war in Ukraine but won’t let Israel do what it must to defend itself.

He made a show of supporting the Israelis, but we knew he wasn’t sincere. He hasn’t ever been on the right side of things, and he has no plans to start now.

What if the naval and military forces Biden has sent to the Eastern Mediterranean are there to control Israel, not to support them? If they think Israel has launched a nuclear or other major defensive attack against Iran, will they intercept it?

It always seemed quite unlike Biden and his administration to send forces to defend Israel. Sending them to intimdate and control Israel, however, would be more in character.

You can be absolutely certain that if the United States government is involved, everything will go straight to Hell.

Obama did hold back on defense material resupply during one of these ‘conflicts.’ i do note that according to JTA this a.m. IDF forays into certain Gazan areas are occurring - w/out massive incursion - and some tunnel complexes are already being unearthed, neutralized and plumbed for intel. so i think that Bibi is finding work-arounds.

I honestly thought Biden and the State Department would give Israel a couple of weeks to go into Gaza and decimate Hamas before applying pressure on Israel to withdraw and starting the babble about “coming to the negotiating table”, but it appears I was too optimistic. Apparently they will not allow an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza at all.

Restraint for Israel but full-on massacre in Ukraine, now calling up college-age girls and old guys for the draft, and not a peep out of them about a cease fire.

“U.S. and European governments have joined to put pressure on Israel to hold off on its ground invasion of Gaza to allow more time to win the release of hostages held by Hamas, U.S. and foreign officials said.”

Now what you do if you were Hamas and you knew the ground war would not commence until you’ve released the hostages?

This article is garbage.
Nobody is blocking Israel from conducting a ground offensive.
Israel is hesitating because of the possibility of Hezballah fighters joining in.
And of course, they’re waiting for that US aid package to pass.

Exactly. And Hamas could transfer them to Iran so Iran can get more ransom payments.

Maybe Israel needs to pay closer attention to American politics. If they want something from Joe Biden, they have to bribe him (indirectly, of course, through shell companies).

Meanwhile Hamas takes a page from the Russians on preparing very strong defenses. Israel needs to learn quickly that this American government is NOT their friend.

Israel is dependent on US for munitions especially bunker busters

which is necessary to get to the tunnels without sending in soldiers
