Keep Your Head on a Swivel
American Thinker ^ | 6 Nov, 2023 | J.B. Shurk

Posted on 11/06/2023 4:29:55 AM PST by MtnClimber

This is an essay about surviving. We should be living our lives today with an expectation that something bad will soon happen. That feeling should not dominate our existence or preclude us from pursuing rich and joyful lives, but it should keep us mentally vigilant and physically prepared before disaster strikes. In this Obama-Biden America of open borders, out-of-control violent crime, economic fragility, and international provocations, it is only a matter of time before conflicts abroad become conflicts at home. It is vitally important to keep your head on a swivel.

The October 7 Hamas terror attacks on Israeli civilians serve as a shocking reminder that evil is raring to go when people least expect it. One second, concertgoers were enjoying festival music, the next second they were struggling to escape slaughter. One moment, families were asleep in their beds, and the next moment gunmen were breaking into their homes. Life-and-death situations require critical thinking without the luxury of time; therefore, those who have already mentally prepared for the worst put themselves in the best position to prevail.

Unfortunately, Americans are at a disadvantage today because they have been conditioned to depend entirely upon government institutions for protection. A culture that values strength and self-reliance produces citizens who are capable of defending themselves when necessary. A culture that embraces victimhood, views masculinity as “toxic,” finds language “triggering,” and insists that only government agents should be armed with weapons is a culture ripe for swift defeat.

Furthermore, too many official U.S. government policies are intentionally geared toward harming Americans. No sane nation interested in the safety of its citizens would open its borders to tens of millions of illegal aliens, refuse to prosecute violent criminals, or secretly resettle anti-American, military-aged “refugees” into unsuspecting American communities.

No sane nation wastes its resources harassing patriotic citizens as “domestic enemies,” while turning a blind eye to the damage caused by Antifa and BLM riots and the very real threats from Islamic terrorism.

I am sure that the FBI is right on top of the terrorist concerns. /s

In the subsequent two decades [after 9/11], the federal government has created a complex surveillance system that enables it to spy on every citizen of the United States. Not only has freedom been foolishly traded for the promise of security, but also that promise proved to be a lie.

J.B. Shurk also states:
The cold, hard truth is this: through its open border policies and refugee resettlement programs, the federal government is actively aiding and abetting the next terrorist attack on the United States.
That defines the members of the Obama-Biden kakistocracies as traitors to the United States of America.

Government wants to disarm law abiding citizens, open the boarders to anyone with an uncontrolled flood of who knows what which includes at the least people who have learned to survive in a repressive environment or worse criminals. Some we now have millions who do not know our laws, our culture and will do anything to survive. If they break the law (correction, when...) the Soro’s DA will let the walk! So in this situation if you are a potential crime victim, the defunded police will not show up in time, if the arrive at all. If you protect yourself, well in our government’s view YOU’RE the criminal.

Be seeing you number 6.....

When things happen that don’t make any sense...
Someone is funding it. Someone is protecting it. Someone has an agenda.

It is all good advice.

This mindset can be ingrained via mental repetition. I spent four years in the Navy, and during that time, I learned how important it was to be able to find my way out of wherever I was, whether it was lighted and unobstructed, or pitch black and full of smoke.

My wife teases me, because even 45 years later, if we go to any hotel or cruise ship (especially on a ship) one of the first things I do once we drop our luggage into our room is figure out how to get from wherever our room is to the outside or on deck. And I always have shoes available (that don’t have laces) and a flashlight on the bedside table.

Last cruise we went on a few years ago (which will probably be the last one we ever go on) our cabin was way down below deck. I made sure I knew two ways out, counted the doors to the nearest stairs, and counted the flights we would have to go up. I felt pretty sure that if we lost all power, I could have made it out of that vessel from at least three decks down, on my hands and knees, in pitch black, with smoke if I didn’t get overcome.

And that is just one microcosm of this mindset the author promulgates. That thing about being in a restaurant or nightclub, knowing where the exits are, having visiblity, etc. is good advice.

That said, I don’t go to places with big crowds or into cities much anymore unless I have to.

Especially not now.

The American Civil War was the last time a major conflict happened on the continental USA, no one alive today has seen war brought into the homeland.

You could say Alaska and Hawaii were involved in the fighting of WW II, which is true, except neither was a State at the time and I’m thinking of the 48 continental states.

Think about the panic and fear people suffered from during Covid, most of it induced by the Government and Media nonetheless, the panic and fear was rampant.

Imagine, a few months of continuous terrorist attacks inside the USA, suicide bombings, mass shootings, crashed airliners, electrical grid disrupted, etc., the level of panic and fear would be off the charts.

Especially in major cities, with a lack of police, the guns would come out and large numbers of innocent people would be thrown into the battle.

It’s hard to imagine how bad it could get.

Your mindset is not a crazy thing, remember it’s not paranoia if people really are out to get you, in this case I think they are living among us.

My wife and I occasionally venture into Walmart, usually really early figuring the drunks and deadbeats are still in bed, I always know where the exits and try to stay award of my surroundings at all times.

” One second, concertgoers were enjoying festival music”

This sadly isn’t new.....
Route 91 Harvest music festival (Stephen Paddock???) 2017
Bataclan theatre attack (Eagles of Death Metal) 2015
Manchester Arena (Ariana Grande) 2017

and I’ll throw in the Altamont concert for good measure. :(

"...it’s not paranoia if people really are out to get you..."

One of my favorite sayings, and so true. The Left particularly likes to accuse people of paranoia, so that only makes that saying more meaningful. (Kind of like the Soviets who classified people as mentally ill in order to confine them)

Stupid article. Constantly staying in fight of flight mode is very damaging to mental health. Train. Lift weights. Buy ammo. Make yourself the most dangerous man in the room.ous
