Climate activists angered opera fans at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, by standing up and screaming during an opening night performance of Tannhäuser, Thursday.
Radical climate group Extinction Rebellion, NYC, took credit for the protest on social media, and shared videos of the disruptions.
Halfway through the second act of the performance, several protesters stood up and demanded an end to fossil fuels. One man scolded the audience to "wake up" to the "climate emergency," before unfolding a black banner that said, "No opera on a dead planet."
"Wake up! The stream is polluted! The stream is tainted! The stream is poison! This is a climate emergency! This is a climate emergency. There will be no opera on a dead planet!" he shouted.
The first disruption was timed by the group to coincide with a character's line in the opera, Extinction Rebellion said.
"The disruption was timed to coincide with the main character’s declaration that ‘love is a spring to be drunk from,’ and highlighted the fact that, contrary to those words spoken on stage, springs are not pure now, because we are in a climate crisis, and our water is contaminated," the group said in a statement.
As the protesters were ushered out by security, audience members booed and jeered at the activists. The performance was stopped again, when another activist with Extinction Rebellion stood up and shouted a similar message.
Angry audience members demanded the woman leave, shouting "Shut up!" "Get out of here!" "Go outside!" "This isn't the place!" One person can be seen yanking the protester's scarf.

I liked it better when Abbie Hoffman and pals threw real dollar bills down from a balcony at the NY Stock Exchange as a protest against materialism.
And bringing in a hog named “Pigasus” as the ballot alternative to Hubert Humphrey for the Dem Nat. convention.
And when Mayor Daley whines “What trees do they plant? What trees do they plant here in Chicago” about agitators and protesters. The Yippies brought in baby trees and planted them on the grassy areas beside the city streets. And didn’t have a permit so were arrested.
Strangely, I haven’t seen these chumps try it at an Insane Clown Posse concert.
I guess it never occurred to these climate dimwits the truth of the old saying; “It is better to keep quiet and be thought an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt”
The consequences for this needs to be a severe ass whipping.. like drinking out of a straw and months of rehab...
That’s how you fix zealots like this.
I’ve recently learned a really good way to win people over to your side is not to make a thoughtful presentation of your opinion on the topic.
It’s to make a vulgar, highly interrupting, spectacle, calling undeserved attention to yourself. Makes sense, since really all you want is attention and for people to know you’re virtuous.
And the doubly failed alarmism of so called global warming—giving the price point controls to worldwide big oil thugs.. as the rest of the world BEGS... BEGS for heating oil against the coming.... GLOBAL mini-Ice Age for the next 200 years. As predicted by National Geographic scientists- real ones... in the 1970’s.
They won’t be protesting as they freeze their a@@es off. They will never understand their Leftist elitists.
Anyone who would disrupt a performance of Tannhauser oughta be punished far worse than someone who had been off skanking around with some mythical goddess.

People pay good money to see a show. If that experience is ruined by coordinated disruption it then seems reasonable that the parties responsible for the incident be held liable.
Nothing would have been better than if all of the opera goers had dropped a little testosterone and kicked the crap out of the protesting, crybaby student loan deadbeats who agreed to vote for a demented old pedophile if he promised to make the American workers pay for their worthless, POS “diplomas” so they can skip off to Europe and buy T-shirts from all the pubs over there.

Although I’d go a bit easier on ‘em.
They’ll still have their teeth and likely wouldn’t be in the emergency room - but they’d receive a strong and loud shoving around that would make them think twice about doing it again.
