Cancer Is Striking More Young People, and Doctors Are Alarmed and Baffled

Meilin Keen was studying for the bar exam and preparing to move to New York City last June when she started throwing up blood.

Keen, 27 years old, learned days later that she has gastric cancer. She postponed the bar exam. Brain fog from chemotherapy made it hard to do her legal work.

Surgeons removed her stomach in December. Keen is coming to terms with all that means for her diet, her health, even her dating life. “That’s a fun icebreaker: I don’t have a stomach anymore,” she said.

Cancer is hitting more young people in the U.S. and around the globe, baffling doctors. Diagnosis rates in the U.S. rose in 2019 to 107.8 cases per 100,000 people under 50, up 12.8% from 95.6 in 2000, federal data show. A study in BMJ Oncology last year reported a sharp global rise in cancers in people under 50, with the highest rates in North America, Australia and Western Europe.

Doctors are racing to figure out what is making them sick, and how to identify young people who are at high risk. They suspect that changes in the way we live—less physical activity, more ultra-processed foods, new toxins—have raised the risk for younger generations.

“The patients are getting younger,” said Dr. Andrea Cercek, who co-directs a program for early-onset gastrointestinal cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where Keen was treated. “It’s likely some environmental change, whether it’s something in our food, our medications or something we have not yet identified.”

I had a cat develop a vaccine-injection site sarcoma. Because we noticed it early, we had him treated right away. He ended up having four surgeries, the last of which completely removed one of his larger leg muscles. He was a bit gimpy after that, but still lived another nine years. Oh, and he still got his annual vaccinations.

Dingbat here ADMITS that getting her cat injected, caused it to lost most of a leg: and yet STILL continued to have it get injections in following years.

I now begin to see a pattern in how Dingbat treats the injuries from clot-shots...

If you really want to convince an infectious disease countermeasures scientist

First of all, you are not a scientist. You are a high priest of sciencistan. You are not seeker after knowledge, you see yourself as a source of knowledge.

I worked for a scientific institution, and there were definitely two types. Real scientists latch on the intellectual puzzles and when you engage them in conversation what you get out of them are all the questions they are trying to answer. When you ask them a question they aren't satisfied unless they can impart understanding. They are consumed by curiosity.

The other type has no curiosity at all. Instead, they spew irrelevant examples of their own knowledge just to prove how much they know. They retreat to the jargon of their field and use it as a cloak to hide from questions in the hope that you will go away. The root of this type's motivation is arrogance.

Far from being curious, you are dogmatic. You don't ask questions, you suppress them. When questioned, you put on your priest hat and start doing an authority dance.

Here are a few. But you won't read them or even consider the title with an ounce of curiosity. Instead you will strut around with your authority dance and huff about how the unwashed don't have the knowledge or background to understand the science or you will proclaim the researchers are "not real scientists" or some other excuse not to open your mind and start educating yourself past your own little authoritarian view of the subject. Because if you ever admit you don't know everything, you might have to lose that fancy science priest hat you have fitted yourself with.

“The contrails”.

More than twice I’ve seen Reno skies turned into a checkerboard.

Yeah she is. She was on another thread posting crap about how we would achieve herd immunity if enough people were vaccinated. It’s an RNA virus is never goes away. Same as a cold.

She backed away because she can’t argue her position.
