Good Night Oppy
Amazon Prime Video ^ | 2/14/23 | Me, Myself, & I

I am watching this wonderful movie about the development of the Mars rovers Opportunity and Spirit. There are interviews of the scientists involved and their reminiscences of the process of designing and building these remarkable machines, which furthered our knowledge of Mars by light years. And then I grew a bit depressed, thinking of the billions and billions of U.S. dollars which have gone to feed, house, medicate, pay legal bills, educate, etc. the hordes of illegal criminal invaders El Retardo and his fellow traitors have let invade our country. Such absolute contempt for our country and the freedoms it represents! They might as well be letting their collective pants drop around their ankles and squat to relieve themselves on our sovereign nation and its flag. No punishment short of conviction and very long imprisonment would suffice to punish them to the extent they deserve.

Just think what we could have had for that money squandered on the flotsam and jetsam of the world. We'd have been far more ahead in space exploration, probably have cured some dreadful diseases plaguing mankind, and made life easier for our veterans. All that money squandered to suit the evil designs of a few dozen selfish people, and deprive millions of taxpayers of its potential benefits.

I’ve often seen ‘Good Night Oppy’ on Prime, and have been meaning to watch it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I’ve watched this documentary. It’s excellent. We need a new generation of engineers and innovators that made this project possible. Will we ever see their likes again?

That's part of what I meant in my post. With the emphasis on CRT and DEI and dumbed down curricula, where will the brilliant minds necessary for this type of work come from? From home schooled kids only? And where will the pride in our country, which the libtards have done their best to extinguish or even turn to rancor, come from?

There are more homeschoolers out there than you might think. And they are all hot for tech and innovation. At least in my experience. I’m not losing hope.

I’d sooner pee on an electric fence than endure the sights and sounds of Stewart and/or Colbert.

I’ve finally watched ‘Good Night Oppy’, and I want to thank you again for reminding me of it.

It’s a wonderful documentary, and the technology and the accomplishments of the people who made the mission possible are amazing. (And it has made me think further about the future possibilities of AI - even though the dangers of it still scare the heck out of me.)

Requiscat in pace, Oppy.

You might like another story, from long before - back when we were using slide rules to get Out There:
