Boston's migrant shelter luxury: State pays $16 for breakfast, $17 for lunch and $31 for dinner as they live in hotels for free after entering the US illegally

New documents show the rising public cost of sheltering migrants in Massachusetts, as the state grapples with a strain on its emergency shelter system.

The state has 17 contracts totaling $116 million to house migrant families through June, including a no-bid $10 million contract for a company providing meals, CBS News Boston reported, citing documents obtained by the outlet.

In some cases, the state is paying hotels $64 per person each day for meals, including $16 for breakfast, $17 for lunch and $31 for dinner.

Last August, Massachusetts Governor Maura T. Healey declared a state of emergency, saying the state had more than 20,000 migrants in its shelter system.

Capacity overruns have necessitated the use of hotels for emergency shelter, but earlier this month the state opened a new temporary facility with 400 beds in Boston's Melnea Cass Recreational Center.

It followed reports that migrants were being forced to sleep on cots at Logan Airport, underscoring the humanitarian crisis and strain on the state's resources.

Similar to New York, Massachusetts has a longstanding Right to Shelter law mandating that the state provide emergency shelter to families in desperate need.

The law requires emergency shelter to include basic cooking facilities, and if it does not, as in the case of some hotels, the state has to step in and contract for food to be delivered.

CBS affiliate WBZ found that one catering vendor, Spinelli Ravioli Manufacturing Company in East Boston, was awarded a $10 million six-month no-bid contract to provide and deliver meals.

'As an approved state vendor, Spinelli's was contacted at the onset of the crisis,' the company told WBZ.

'We are not the exclusive meal vendor and do not have a guaranteed contract, or financial agreement, beyond this initial emergency period,' the statement added.

The big problem is preventing this administration from sneaking Federal funds from the rest of the states to reimburse sanctuary jurisdictions for their foolhardiness and allow them suffer alone for their virtue signaling

They got it backwards, you’re supposed to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.

For most working families, going to a sit-down restaurants is a rare treat. Most of the time, they are cooking something like Hamburger Helper and Rice-A-Roni at home.

It should enrage these citizens that illegals are being given money to dine out three times a day, while having their hotel paid for on top of that.

But...I don't see the outrage.

Thank you for the links.

It is noticeably absent in the illegal immigration issue as to the US environmental footprint. Recently there were articles and statements from the left claiming climate change is causing massive migrations? Really? Let’s not stop there. How much carbon has been used to move the migrants to the US? How much carbon will they spew into the US annually? What you will see the left do is move the ball to “we have to look at this as a global issue as climate change knows no borders.” Fair enough, there is no reason for country commitments to the Paris accords then because there are no borders.

If the GOP had any critical thinkers to develop strategy, they would use the environment to start dividing up the left. Another - what is the environmental impact of crime in demonkkkrap controlled cities - what will it become when we start turning off their lights?

The “migrant” aka illegal alien invasion is making the elites richer and the Middle Class poorer. Exactly what the Democrats planned. Watch out for Biden to come after your guns soon.

Heck, the good people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (or are they a state? ) are actually torturing this poor asylum-seeking immigrants by not even giving them even their full federal government per diem rate for Boston!

They're getting more, per month, than I get in SS, after paying into the system for 45 years.

Yeah, they're replacing us.

This is just for food, right? What are the hotels charging?

And those illegals at Logan Airport - the photos showed a woman lying there with a perfect manicure and gold jewelry. No way she swam the Rio Grande.

We’re being taxed to pave the way for the “migrants” to replace us.

How about those prepaid debit cards they’re getting in NYC?

Think if I go to Venezuela illegally I’ll get a prepaid debit card, hotel room, three meals and a smartphone?
