If you could pick any random 100 people, (American, middle class.) sit down and have a beer with each one for, say, an hour I suspect you’d find this. About 80% would be perfectly normal. You’d even like about 20% and they’d make acceptable friends. But of the 80% you wouldn’t think twice about letting them teach your kids or go with your wife to pick up groceries. The 20% you found “off-putting” in one way or another, of those they’re on a spectrum of mental issues, probably most of which are harmless in most circumstances. But five percent are what the “normal” world would call crazies. They think aliens are listening to their thoughts, or Biden is a good president. At least one of those people is an actual or potential killer. Like an unexploded mine he’s waiting the circumstances to blow up.
