March 5 (UPI) -- An Illinois diver who has recovered about 200 Apple Watches from the bottoms of lakes has a warning for owners: Don't go swimming with the original watch bands.
Darick Langos, a Port Barrington scuba diver who makes a living using his metal detector to recover lost items from the water at Indiana's Chain O' Lakes, said he has found about 200 Apple smartwatches during his dives.
Langos, operator of Scuba Bear Diving Recovery Service, said nearly all of the watches have their original bands attached.
"The ones with the sports bands ... they do not stay on in the water," Langos told Shaw Local.
Langos said he was hired to find some of the watches, while others he came across during his own dives.
He said he keeps everything he finds in the water in the hopes of returning them to their owners.
"I haven't sold anything, including a white gold Cartier ring, unless I get it back to the owner," he said.
Langos said other items he frequently finds underwater include smartphones, rings, jewelry and prescription glasses.
Apple Ping!.................
Boating accident?
Notice he never finds any you know whats...............
So bad people toss them overboard to get rid of them?
Tragic!....................
apparently they don’t float and can’t swim either. cheap. wondering if any guns were found?
Apparently the original band was defective.................
We knew someone who used to take his metal detector to a few Hill Country rivers, after major summer holidays ... he’d come up with wedding rings, Rolex watches, etc.
He didn’t talk about it.
Never.
Odd that........................š¤·āāļø
Why would anybody go swimming with a $800 Apple watch in the first place.
People don’t think the watches will be damaged.................
Rivers and lakes are polluted with this stuff , I used to watch a guy on youtube and he did return some phones to their owners ,LOL
Yeah, that’s crazy. Water and expensive electronics don’t mix.
Ottorbox is my preferred cellphone protector.
It used to come with a lanyard hole but my current protector does not have one.
I think it is a bad choice by the Ottorbox designers to drop it.
A few iPhones are water resistant bot most are not.
LOL. He can find my daughter’s in Lake Norman. Sure there’s more than a few in there, as well.
ā He said he keeps everything he finds in the water in the hopes of returning them to their owners.ā
Iād probably just keep the stuff I find in a bag not in the water. /s
I found a Timex for someone who dropped it in 30 ft of water. Was still working. Had been there 3 days.
