Election Integrity: Trump, Mike Johnson Back Bill Assuring Only U.S. Citizens Vote in Elections
New American Prophet ^ | April 17, 2024 | Ben Johnson

After election watchdogs have documented tens of thousands of non-citizens registering to vote in swing states and Republican strongholds alike, President Donald Trump and House Republicans have backed legislation to assure only U.S. citizens vote in national elections.

Standing alongside the 45th president at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced that House Republicans will “introduce legislation that requires every single person who registers to vote in a federal election must prove [he is] an American citizen.”

What about fake IDs?

When we had to comply with Real ID, we were required to present a birth certificate and lots of other documents. If the States really want to ensure that only U.S. Citizens vote, it should be simple to do now. But in 2020 when I voted in person, they refused to see my voter registration OR my driver’s license when I tried to show them. They just wanted me to tell them my name and address.

And “never let a crisis go to waste” comes back to bite the Marxist Democrats right in the buttocks.

Well we only had to comply with RealID if we wanted to fly any longer... but I guess that is out the window with all the migrants taking free flights all over the damn place.

But RealID is the vehicle and it’s in place...and that means if you want to vote you’re going to have to just go down and get yourself a RealID. I don’t have a problem with that if it means election integrity.

I disagree with a lot of it but if you want to clean election RealID is the viable on time method. It’s here, it’s now let’s just fuggin use it.

When I filed my taxes, I was required to provide a valid ID # for both myself and my wife. Does that mean income tax is racist?

The only time Mikey votes for the benefit of Americans is when he has no leverage and there's no chance of it getting through the Senate or to pedojoe's desk for a veto.

Pure showvoting is all.

Yep, BS theater. Dead in the Senate and a veto.

In my state, everyone had to comply with Real ID. But it’s not going to do any good, if the people running the polling places don’t even request ID. (When I went to vote last, the person I tried to give my registration and DL to actually become visually upset, saying that she didn’t want to see that.) And I wonder if all of our new illegals are going to be documented as thoroughly as we citizens are when we get a driver’s license.

Our elections in 2020 were run by completely new people - some have suspected they were union people. None of the usual neighborhood folks we had always seen at the polling place were there, none of the men in suits who had always seemed to be lawyer-like, were there observing. It was a completely different, almost chilling, atmosphere; and I’ve never been able to believe that it was like that just because of Covid needs - though one could easily consider that Covid certainly would have made a useful excuse for shenanigans..)

So, are conservatives now supporting a National Identification Card? That would be the only real way to ensure nobody but citizens vote.

Seems like a bad idea.

How do you propose we identify citizens from non citizens or others who are ineligible to vote, at the polling place?

Democrats won’t vote for it. Probably some Rinos won’t either.

It's meaningless gesture since it won't pass the Senate. Johnson is only bringing this up to cover up his betrayal on the FISA bill and breaking of his pledge on the border and Ukraine war.

Johnson needs to be forced into retirement at the end of his term.

How about a law that requires States that allow non-citizens to vote in local elections, maintain separate ballots and voting rolls for federal elections?

Not offered as a real solution, more of a statement on the election process.

Here in Indiana I show them my DL and they scan it into a computer to verify it as valid.

I’e never known them to do anything like that (I’m in Maryland) and now they won’t even look at a DL.

That’s the puzzling thing - Maryland is so reliably Liberal/Democrat, I don’t know why they would need to be lax on this stuff.

I hate to see Trump fall for this sales pitch of something that is absolutely impossible to pass in this current Senate and Administration.

He shouldn’t even waste time associating with it. It makes him look bad to sign onto something like this fantasy effort. It makes him look like a fool and that is probably the plan from Johnson.

“Democrats won’t vote for it. Probably some Rinos won’t either.”

Nope. It will never get past the Senate or Biden. It is impossible to get through and they are just playing us for the fool. Anyone who would think this could ever pass right now is dumber than a box of rocks. I can’t believe Trump is even falling for this BS sales pitch from Johnson.

Are there any Conservative ideals that you think are worth pushing for, even if the chances of achieving them seem slim?
