Over the years, we've seen a number of suggested replacements for gasoline to fuel motorcycles – including steam, hydrogen, water and batteries. Now a moto maker is getting ready to launch what's billed as the world's first CNG motorcycle.
CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas, which as its name suggests is "produced by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure." It can be used as a fuel source for internal combustion engines, where a cylindrical tank feeds the gas through fuel lines via a pressure regulator before reaching the combustion chamber to be mixed with air and ignited by spark plug.
Like LPG – or Liquefied Natural Gas – it's often viewed as a cleaner and cheaper alternative to petrol, diesel or gasoline for transportation and can be found installed in buses, trucks and even cars and trikes. Though there have been CNG conversion kits available around the globe for a while, the upcoming CNG motorcycle from India's Bajaj Auto is claimed to be the world's first production model.

Motorcycle ping!......................
It still emits eeeeevil carbon dioxide.
- And water vapor, evil water vapor too.
It still emits eeeeevil carbon dioxide.
~~~~~
True, but it emits much less carbon dioxide. The reason why CNG is less energy dense is that its molecules have far less carbon to burn... for what it’s worth.
In my book, that and $.50 will get you a McDonalds senior coffee.
That also means you have to burn more of it per mile, so it probably emits pretty much the same amount of CO2 per mile.
Nothing beats the thrill of 5000psi of flammability directly beneath your crotch..
Yeah. I ride. That’s the first thing I thought of. Although, it’s a common phenomenon for gas to boil in a bike’s gas tank in hot weather.
It also reduces power out out. A friend converted an old van to cng. The 220hp 6cylinder engine dropped to about 150hp.
Not the first... not even close.
Why not? How about pure vegetable oil or even biodiesel? Close to co2 neutral....no?
Should make motorcycle vs car crashes spectacular.
Is that an exploded view of an exploding explosion?
CNG?!? Not many CNG filling stations out there...better to use propane...the BBQ size cylinders available at a lot of places. (Higher energy density than CNG too).
Also the author of this article doesn’t even know what “LPG” is short for:
Quote: “...Like LPG – or Liquefied Natural Gas...”
Not! Try “Liquified Petroleum Gas” Mr P. Ridden/author.
Interesting. Presumably “several battery types” includes lithium-ion and related technologies. This is why we are seeing EVs weighing upwards of 9,000 pounds, hardly a “green” solution to saving the environment as promoted by libtards and other assorted useful idiots.
