Your link at the top doesn't work.
This "story" is over a year old.
of course the washington times (a newspaper loved by freepers) is lying
"and some are blaming President Bush's immigration proposal in January for enticing immigrants across the border."

Could it be the Jan 7th speech?
President Bush does not support amnesty because individuals who violate Americas laws should not be rewarded for illegal behavior and because amnesty perpetuates illegal immigration.
"individuals who violate Americas laws should not be rewarded"
Whew! I'm glad that's taken care of. What exactly are they doing to violators? Deporting them? Nope.
Bump.
I'll put you down in the "Do Nothing" column.
Give local LE authority to question, detain and deport
They did.
The Bush "plan" is the only serious contender out there; if it isn't implemented in some form, there's going to be nothing offered in its place.
Did you even listen to what President Bush said last night?
Had President Bus not made the efforts he did during the last four years to attract Hispanic voters we would have a President Kerry today.
If we alienate the Hispanic voters with racists talk about them destroying our culture, ruining our neighborhoods, being gang criminals, welfare abusers, unloyal, disease ridden, lazy, unsanitary, etc... we will not get enough of their votes to win the White House in 2008.
If we had not won this last year and if we don't win in 2008 we will probably never change the abortion laws in our lifetime.
All economists recognize the need for immigrant labor in America now. The current immigration laws aren't allowing a sufficient number in. Now we can simply raise the number of immigrants allowed in and expedite the process where it only takes a few weeks to get a green card instead of several years, or instead we can enact a guest worker program that only allows the number and type of immigrant laborers needed in, and who will return home after several years.
We can discuss immigration in a non-offensive manner or we can revert to the insulting, inflammatory rhetoric that the Buchanan/Tancredo, FAIR, CIS etc... professional fundraisers use to solicit contributions from racists and xenophobes.
If we alienate our Hispanic voters , hundreds of millions of babies will die in the following decades.
If you ended that with a /sarcasm tag, I'd say that was a good one. Are you in advertising? Used cars?
The majority of the problems re illegal aliens are on the state and local levels;yet most people on FR rush to blame President Bush for everything.
This is where I get called a racist for supporting the deportation of all illegal immigrants, so I might as well say I support the deportation of all illegal immigrants with the cost of this operation to be deducted from the Constitutionally unauthorized aid we send the country in question.
But if we lose the Hispanic vote like we lost the black vote because of racists such as Buchanan, we may never win the White House again. How many abortions will take place in the next 50 years?
I'm the first to say Bush is commendable in that he split the INS. One half attempting to get illegals here, the other processing deportation hearings -crazy! It is true that problems are at the state and local levels. It is there that the majority of the public and private organizations encourage and perpetuate it. As for the Fed level, porous borders is a national security concern.
I read a "good" CBS poll on black voting. A staggering percentage of blacks are fed up with the democrats. They feel left behind, duped and used for an agenda. But they still voted for that party.
