I've been touring NWA and thinking of moving here. I know that the political makeup isn't as solidly conservative as my little county in PA but I'm pretty surprised by some of the things I've seen here.

There are "no guns allowed" stickers everywhere ! What gives ? Can someone in AR tell me what the real story is here ?

Take a look at North Texas, specifically Dallas/Ft Worth and suburbs while you’re at it.

I didn’t know Arkansas was that bad.

You could easily just move a few miles West and be in NE Oklahoma. Really pretty country. Rolling hills, plenty of open spaces etc. Very gun friendly.

Walmart and U. of Arkansas effect? Two large employers who are attracting many out-of-staters, likely including a lot of Regressives. They love fouling blue states, and then moving to red and purple states to sh*t in their new nests.

Go to handgunlaw.us to read up on it fully. It is long and convoluted, for sure. On the good side, they do offer an upgraded license that removes a lot of restrictions. The AR laws are way more detailed than what I deal with here in OK.

Unfortunately, Arkansas has a socialist streak an inch-wide and a mile deep. Texas, too.

I never regretted moving from Texas to Arkansas, but sometimes these people are just so &@$# dumb, it’s really frustrating. They never met a big government program they didn’t like.

That’s how America got Hitlery for eight years, along with the Perv.

What I want to know is why retired cops get HR218 Federal Concealed Weapon license good anywhere in the US and a citizen cannot get one.

The NrA is a weak kneeed lobby compared to the Police Lobby, and I bet the NrA does the bidding of the Police Lobby. That place is filled with Statists

Get a place in the Sticks, live there, get yer supplies in bulk, get a Resident Combo Hunting/Fishing License and supply off of the land/water and ignore the city commies. Find and make contact with the Local Game & Fish Officer, most of them are good, fair people just don’t push the Game/Fish Laws. My Brother has been living in AR since the late 70’s. He will hardly leave the State. I lived there for 5 years after My divorce. Went back to TX to take care of Mom because I was the “mobile” Kid.

Ya got FRMail.

NW Arkansas is beautiful. I think what probably happened was that wanting to get rid of their image as hillbillies, the state started to pass rules and regulations that would discourage the traditionally tough, hardy old timers from keeping their old ways. Sounds like wealthy Rinos and liberals who bought vacation property down there, thought they knew best. Carpetbaggers come to mind. Kind of a forced form of gentrification, whether they want it or not. (The state knows what’s best for us!/sarc)

I’m on the MS Gulf Coast and hardly see any signs...plus our carry laws are some of the most 2nd friendly in the nation these days.

This NW corner of Arkansas used to be dirt poor and hick hillbilly. When Sam Walton began his Wal-Mart things began to change. The new power plant 40 years ago gave new tax dollars and the schools are now some of the best in the area.
Medical facilities are great! I had a heart valve implant 28 years ago at Springdale. SIX hospitals close by in Siloam Springs, Gravette, Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, and Fayetteville. Excellent clinics and VA facilities here.

As for the “no guns allowed” pay no attention to them as crime is not great in this area. I haven’t carried HERE in 50 years. Now going to TULSA OK is a different matter.

If you have a problem with Arkansas, there is Eastern Oklahoma. Grove OK is nice with the lakes, Missouri used to be good but they have fallen on hard times over the last 50 years.
It is not our “home” but we have adjusted to it.

Check out the Missouri Ozarks.
Low cost of living, low taxes, cheap groceries, fish year round, deer and turkey in the woods.
Shoot your gun.
Did I mention low taxes ?

Our nephew is the Vice Chancellor at University of Arkansas in Ft Smith. It’s a beautiful little town and they love it there. Short distance to Oklahoma.
