As an experienced moderator, I always ban religion and politics unless that is the topic of the discussion group. It can’t do anything but harm.
It’s a smart move, for sure.
The opposite of that smart move is what Ravelry is doing - NOT banning the topics, only particular opinions on those topics.
Talk about a policy that may as well have been designed to generate blowback!

I used to visit a homesteading forum but it got ruined by politics. Mainly a handful of rabid leftists vs conservatives. Neither side would “let it go” in an argument and every subject became political due to the PC thing. The forum lost half of it’s members and of course, it was the knowledgeable half.
They also changed ownership a couple of times and changed forum software a couple of times during all this and that didn’t help.
