Many morning glory species have LSA in their seeds (lysergic acid amide), a precursor to LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide). For that and because of being classified as noxious weeds, possession of such plants and their seeds is quite heavily regulated.

Same goes for the peyote cactus, which produces mescaline.

BTW, drinking alcohol is not produced industrially, but from plants itself. I have never seen people who abuse alcohol go to heavy downers as I’ve seen those who abuse cannabis, although they might tend towards stimulants like cocaine and amphetamines.

I don’t agree with government regulating natural plants that have psychedelic properties. These plants have been used for thousands of years and it’s just the recent failed war on drugs that has demonized these plants. Again, I’m for leaving people alone. An idea that I thought would have support from most Freepers.
