Some of the best conservative rock and roll you will ever encounter. Check the URL for complete lyrics.

I would recommend the following,

The Envoy

Lawyers Guns and Money

Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner

If you like the lyrics you -must- get the CD. It's hard to indicate the quality of this stuff without hearing the actual music. Trust me, you will not be dissapointed!

Warren died about a year ago in his mid fifties due to lung cancer. A true loss. He was one of the best and most prolific songwriters we have ever had the pleasure to know.

Jackson Brown, Bonnir Riat and many others have recrorded Warren's music.

Check it out. You will not be dissapointed!

Lawyers Guns and Money,

Well, I went home with the waitress The way I always do How was I to know She was with the Russians, too

I was gambling in Havana I took a little risk Send lawyers, guns and money Dad, get me out of this

I'm the innocent bystander Somehow I got stuck Between the rock and the hard place And I'm down on my luck And I'm down on my luck And I'm down on my luck

Now I'm hiding in Honduras I'm a desperate man Send lawyers, guns and money The sh*t has hit the fan

I've got all Warren's records/CDs, and love his stuff, but I never perceived him as being conservative. Good recommendation, though.

Jakson Brown and Linda Rondstadt did this one. Warren does it better....

(Warren Zevon)

I'd lay my head on the railroad tracks
And wait for the Double "E"
But the railroad don't run no more
Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

Well, I met a girl in West Hollywood
I ain't naming names
She really worked me over good
She was just like Jesse James
She really worked me over good
She was a credit to her gender
She put me through some changes, Lord
Sort of like a Waring blender

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

Well, I met a girl at the Rainbow bar
She asked me if I'd beat her
She took me back to the Hyatt House
I don't want to talk about it

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

(Well, I met a girl from the Vieux Carre`
Down in Yokahama
She picked me up and she throwed me down
I said, "Please don't hurt me, Mama")

I still prefer my music heavy, I like Warren though, I`m partial to "werewolves of london." We tried to get this as our class song back in the '80s check out verse 2, rather poignant.

In Union We Stand - Overkill

From the islands to the cities
From the ports and to the seas
We are strong we will always be
Blazing through the wreckage
burning all we see
the life we lead committed to be free
Our union is a fortress
together we are bound
a common bond in freedom and in sound
so raise your voices high
for miles around to hear
let them know we are drawing near
Chorus
In union we stand
as they blaze across the land
in union we make our final stand
In union we stand
as they blaze across the land
in union we make our final stand

A peaceful co-existance
is dropping out of sight
so band together
together we will fight
blasting the resistance
marching to the top
they started this we say when it stops
strike fear within their hearts
strike down those in your way
let them know that we live today
they threw us into flames
did not heed our cries
but now from the ashes we arise.
Chorus
(twice)

Chorus
(repeatedly)

Heard on the local NPR station a concert where Bruce Sprinsteen and others did a "cover" of Warren's last album before he died.

"My Ride Is Here"

Very sad. But Warren left alot for us to remember.

The same concert had Jackson Brown and Bonnie Riat (sp?) singing "Poor Poor Pitiful Me"

Good stuff.....

There is thoughtfull music out there, if you look for it.

"Zevon bump. I miss him."

I really do also.....

He did some really good stuff. I hope some of the younger
Freepers check him out. Anybody who made a fortune on a song called "Lawyers Guns and Money" can't be all bad.

Warren is the only "Rock Star" I really miss. He was edgy, odd and honest. Traits we sorely miss now.

Terri Clark had a big hit with "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me" on the country charts a few years back.

That song is from 1987 and fits well in relation to 9/11. We tried to get that as our class song back in H.S.

"Did a cut of the Envoy ever make it to CD?"

It appears on "A Quiet Normal Life" The Best of Warren Zevon.

Great song. As relevant now as it was back then.
