    Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | 2 May 2024 | Dr Benji Waterhouse
I spent a decade helping people with disorders considered messy, ugly or outright feared – but one patient was particularly memorable...SNIP ‘For those who don’t know, Femi is a 45-year-old man with psychosis who believes he’s a werewolf,’ Reggie, the nurse in charge, tells us. We’re on the hospital’s male psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU); because some minds need thorough care too. Hidden away in the bowels of the psychiatric hospital, it’s where florid mental illness at its most disturbed and dangerous is housed. Myself and members of the emergency response team are huddled inside the staff office, which is...

Here's a 29 minute 57 second video of the Shindig Halloween Show from 1965. The only copy available available has a missing five minute segment that had four cut songs including Boris Karloff singing The Monster Mash! The missing audio segment was recorded by Lionelatwill in 1965, when he was only a kid, (a smart kid) and those missing minutes were edited in to the video from the 13:17 to 19:15 section. I edited some of the show's other video clips and then synched to Lionelatwil's audio. Here's the closest thing to the complete episode available. Enjoy the blast from...

Linda Ronstadt - Poor Poor Pitiful Me "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" is a rock song written and originally recorded by Warren Zevon in 1976. It is best known as one of Linda Ronstadt's signature hits from 1978. Country music singer Terri Clark scored a hit in 1996 with her own cover of the song. There have also been many other versions of this song. In keeping with Warren Zevon's sardonic lyrical style, the song's verses deal with a failed suicide, domestic abuse, and a brush with sadomasochism. The song first appeared on Zevon's 1976 self-titled solo album. It is reputed...

Mr. Bad Example on a rocky road to fame Warren Zevon's ex-wife portrays him as a genius -- and a tyrant. BY HOWARD COHEN hcohen@MiamiHerald.com I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon. Warren Zevon was a complicated man to love and champion. Before dying of cancer in 2003, he urged his ex-wife Crystal Zevon to write the definitive biography of his tumultuous life, and he asked her to leave out nothing. She obliged, perhaps too well. Reading the addictive diary-styled I'll Sleep When I'm Dead tests a fan's devotion. You want to like Zevon,...

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath Keep me in your heart for awhile Those are the opening words of the last song on Warren Zevon's haunting final album, The Wind. When he sang those words, he was, literally, running out of breath: He died of lung cancer Sunday night at his home in West Hollywood. He was 56, a new granddad.

Life and Death on 'The Late Show' It is not often that television has anything of import to tell us, and even less often that it is able to arouse genuine emotion, as opposed to manufactured sentiment. And it goes without saying that these rare occasions do not take place on the sets of late night talk shows, which are usually home to triviality and self-promotion. But recently, David Letterman did something that has perhaps never been done on television. On October 30th, he devoted his entire program to a terminally ill musician, Warren Zevon. The show was a celebration...

Legendary singer-song writer Warren Zevon, recently diagnosed with operable lung cancer, will make what could be his farewell performance on tonight's (Wed, Oct 30) episode of the CBS Late Show with David Letterman. The Late Show website lists Zevon as tonight's only guest. In addition, radio host Howard Stern reported that the entire episode will be a tribute to the rocker. Zevon, one of rock music's wittiest and most original songwriters, received the cancer diagnosis in August. His representatives made the announcement that the cancer was untreatable last month. The author of such hits as "Werewolves of London," "Poor, Poor,...
