Computer Screen "Jumping" - Any Ideas About Possible Cause?
11/08/2004

For a couple of days, my computer screen bounces every 10 or 15 seconds (the cursor bar on left goes up and then a few seconds later down). I thought starting the computer over again would hel[, but it does not. Any ideas? - my eyes are going buggy.

Oh, crud - the subliminal Karl Rove Republican Mind Control program spywared onto your computer after you visited georgewgush.com isn't refreshing properly. We're exposed!

The deflection board is probably defective. If it is under warranty, you might want to call the manufacturer.

To test it to make sure it isn't a virus or other problem with the CPU, connect the monitor to another computer that is not having a similar problem.

Run a virus scan, there is a good one at http://www.pandasoftware.com/home/default.asp

Then run a anti-spyware program here is a good one http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Have you placed anything new near the monitor? Any magnetic object, motorized device (fan), or another monitor could cause interference. Move everything away from the monitor and try to correlate the timing to something new.

Is the spring on your chair broken, and/or are you seated on a trampoline?

I am still getting over the up and down of polls, perhaps that is my problem.

If this was a service call, first I would swap monitors to determine where the problem lies... CPU or monitor.

If this is still unresolved, and you want it fixed, work with me and we will fix it.

Determine first:

1. Monitor or CPU
2. Hardware or software
3. Bug or virus

Two questions. 1. Is the whole screen jumping or just the scroll bar? 2. What program has the scroll bar on the left?

Use a timber hitch or a couple of clove hitches and tie it down. If that doesn't work use a figure eight on a bite and clinch it down, then put in a granny knot with a safety knot.
