National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day is Coming

by Wendy Cloyd, editorial coordinator

On April 26, youth across the nation will boldly declare their stand for the preborn by wearing pro-life t-shirts. Will you join them?

The American Life League (ALL) will sponsor its third annual National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day on April 26, with thousands of youth across America sporting a vital message: Abortion kills kids.

The goal of the event is to save babies and their mothers from the horror of abortion and by doing so, to glorify God.

According to Erik Whittington, director of American Life League's youth outreach, recent Gallup polls show that 72 percent of America's youth identify themselves as pro-life. Ironically, though, that same age group is most at risk for having or encouraging an abortion.

Why? Because that is the same group that finds itself bombarded with sexually immoral messages from music, television, movies and video games, among other negative influences. And that constant temptation leads many to an unplanned pregnancy — and of those, many consider abortion.

Enter ALL, with its mission of telling kids the truth about abortion — that it ends the life of a child and leaves the mother with permanent emotional, spiritual and sometimes physical scars. National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day is one way to get the message out.

"We need to arm the young pro-lifers with the tools to educate their peers," Whittington said, "because they are more likely to listen to kids their own age than older adults."

Last year, 13,000 youth made a pledge online to take a stand on National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day, but thousands more participated — and this year the hope is for an even greater stand.

"The more we speak out and engage our culture," Whittington said, "the more babies and mothers will be saved from the death grip of abortion."

ALL offers T-shirts with a very direct message: Abortion kills kids. Whittington said sometimes it takes a harsh reality to wake people from a pro-abortion slumber. It was, in fact, that type of reality that opened his eyes.

"It took thousands of people holding signs that read, 'Abortion Kills Children' to wake me up," he noted. "I speak from experience, whether on the giving end or the receiving end, that it works; babies' lives have been spared because of direct messages."

Last year, for instance, ALL received an e-mail from a girl who shared her story: Though she and her boyfriend had been Christians all their lives, once they started dating they slowly quit going to church and did not remain chaste. The girl found out she was pregnant and was adamant about getting an abortion. Her reason? She didn't want her parents to know she was sexually active.

"Her boyfriend was devastated. He knew abortion was wrong and didn't want his child to die," Whittington said. "He then took her to a local festival, knowing that Rock for Life (an ALL youth outreach) would be there. She saw our pro-life shirts all over the place, which drew her to our stage, where she heard testimonies from women who had had abortions. After the festival, she decided to do the right thing and give birth to her baby.

"What drew her to our stage were the pro-life T-shirts, many of them reading, 'Abortion is homicide' and 'Abortion is mean.' Direct messages do work and they do save babies."

While many organizations focus on the pro-life message during January, tied to the anniversary Roe v. Wade; and October is set aside as Respect Life Month, Whittington points out that efforts to spread the message that human life is sacred from conception to natural death go on every day — and April 26 is just one more chance to give the preborn a voice.

TAKE ACTION/FOR MORE INFORMATION:
If you and your family would like to participate in this effort, Whittington encourages a visit to the American Life League's National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day website. You can learn more about the event, pledge to pledge to participate, order a T-shirt and learn how to promote the event in your community

Additionally, the site offers help to public school students who are concerned about potential harassment for wearing the pro-life message. The site offers a section called "Dealing with Harassment" that will lead you through a step by step guide on what to do.

The Thomas More Law Center has been taking an active role in investigating harassment issues from public schools and has successfully resolved each reported instance of harassment.

At the Thomas More Web site you can find an online form to fill out if you wish to report a harassment issue.

Any chance of getting one my side of the Atlantic? >>>

Sure there is, I freepmailed you the information. You may have to pay an extra fee for the airmail.

Free Republic pulled my original thread because the info. about purchasing the $5.00 shirt was posted and we are not allowed to solicit. It's too bad they just couldn't edit out that little ol' link from the post.

While in San Antonio, '76-'86, I used to make pro-life signs. My personal favorite was a picture with an unborn baby and the words, "You are a child of the universe...you have a right to be here."
