Washington DC. Lou Dobbs had a nice report on it yesterday.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0704/24/ldt.01.html

[snip]
The message of no amnesty for illegal aliens in this country ringing out from Washington to radio listeners around the nation. Thirty-seven radio hosts are broadcasting this week from the capital, asking their listeners to join them in lobbying lawmakers to oppose the so-called comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

It’s called “Hold Their Feet to the Fire,” an electronic town hall gathering. For three days 37 talk radio hosts are huddling in a Washington, DC hotel, broadcasting. Their goal is to let lawmakers feel the heat of radio listeners who oppose an amnesty bill.

GLOVER: Right now Rhode Island has a huge, bordering on a $4 million deficit, we cannot pay our bills and it’s because of our schools, it’s because of our healthcare system. There are jobs there for Rhode Islanders that are being taken by illegals.

ROGER HEDGECOCK, KOGO, SAN DIEGO: This is an overt plan to weaken the United States by bringing unknown numbers and unknown identities of people across our borders.

PAT BUCHANAN, POLITICAL ANALYST: This isn’t immigration, this is an invasion.

SYLVESTER: It has been electrifying is the only word. Right now there’s essentially a studio audience, you can’t see this, but just off to my right we have probably about 30 people who are just listening to this radio broadcast. These are people who are very like-minded, very familiar with the issues, and they know what is at stake with this immigration debate, Lou.

That brings us to the subject of our poll tonight, Do you believe the Bush administration and the Democratically led Congress should set aside any discussion of comprehensive immigration reform until our borders and ports are secured? Cast your vote at loudobbs.com.

A BILL

To vacate further proceedings in the prosecution of certain named persons.

Whereas the conviction and sentencing of United States Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean for the pursuit and shooting of drug smuggler Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila which is the subject of a Federal criminal case in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas represents an extreme injustice: Now, therefore,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

SEC. 2. ORDER.

SEC. 3. SENSE OF CONGRESS.

Thanks...I believe the congress has not authority to order any such thing and that such an act of congress is therefore not constitutional.

I believe that Congress should try and persuade the President to pardon these men, and that they should lend their full support to every legal means of appeal and recourse for them.

But an act ordering their release after a legal trial (however we may disagree with the result of that trial annd the preasons for it) is clearly not within the congressional constitutional authority.

Western District of Texas represents an extreme injustice: Now, therefore

We found no extreme injustice in the transcripts of the trial.

People are calling for hearings in congress to go over the evidence to see whether there was any injustice.

But some assume the results of that investigation and are pushing this.

Of course, they know it will never pass. And it shouldn't. Congress should not be overturning jury verdicts.

If they want, they can pass legislation which would immunize border patrol agents from the charges that were in the offense -- it would apply to EVERY BP agent. They could make it retroactive.

Congress shouldn't be legislating for individuals. In some cases, Congress is explicitly forbidden in the constitution from legislating at individuals.

There is movement to clarify the law these agents were charged under. A law they should have NEVER been charged under...using a firearm in the commission of a crime....They did NOT go out that day to commit a crime and Johnny Sutton damn well knows it.

Bottom line here, the reason AMERICANS are so ticked off about this is that most really don't have a problem with a border agent plugging a drug running foreign national in the butt.

Exactly...I believe there is potential for the verdict eventually being over turned and the lawyers and congressmen should focus on that. After reviewing everything, I also believe that the President should pardon these two men and that efforts to that end should continue.

I believe the agents did involve themselves in procedural wrong doing after the incident. But I also believe that at the time of the incident, they acted within the scope of their training and procedures. They saw that the guy had gotten away, and they most probably thought that they had missed him so they did not think reporting the incident would be any big deal...even though they should have done so anyway.

That's my considered opinion after a lot of review on both sides of the issue.

Just got this message about the trucker rally in DC...NOT going to happen! BUT, illegal aliens don’t have to follow ANY rules for their protests!

TODAY, AS OUR TRUCKERS AND CONCERNED CITIZENS LINED UP TO GET ONTO THE D.C. BELTWAY, REPORTS COMING IN HAVE INFORMED US THAT THE TRUCKERS WERE TOLD BY THE D.C. POLICE THAT IF THE TRUCKERS WERE NOT CARRYING A VALID LOAD WITH A PROPER BILL OF LADING AND TRIED TO ACCESS THE D.C. BELTWAY, THEY WOULD BE TICKETED. ALL THE BIG RIG TRAFFIC TRYING TO ACCESS THE D.C. BELTWAY WAS AVERTED AWAY FROM THE BELTWAY.

IF YOU WERE THERE, AND THIS HAPPENED TO YOU, OR YOU WERE TICKETED TODAY ANYWHERE IN OUR NATION FOR TRYING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROTEST, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

You agree with the Border Patrol. According to Bonner, their punishment would have ordinarily been a few days suspension.

Agents: No confidence in border chief
WashingtonTimes ^ | 4/23/07 | Jerry Seper

The leaders of the U.S. Border Patrol’s rank-and-file agents have unanimously voted a no-confidence resolution against Chief David V. Aguilar, citing, among other things, his willingness to believe the “perjured allegations” of criminal aliens over his own agents.

The resolution won endorsement from all 100 top leaders of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents all 11,000 of the U.S. Border Patrol’s nonsupervisory field agents, and targeted Chief Aguilar’s lack of support for field agents, several of whom have been prosecuted on civil rights grounds involving arrests of illegal aliens and drug-smuggling suspects.

Thanks for the ping and seeing the support for the BP agents.

BTW in this mornings San Diego Union Trib. is an article re the 7 major tunnels from Tijuana into San Diego east of the main border area are going to be sealed.
It will cost us $200,000 to 700,000 each to fill.
We need to bill Mexico.

It amuses me, folks many hundreds of miles from Mexico
tell us who are on top of it how it should be.
It is costing Calif. billion + a year to support the illegals and we also have to put up with their crime and
unAmerican attitude.

LOL. I hear ya! Make that thousands of miles! I'm sure those folks from Maine and such know better. /s

I'm in Los Angeles, so I see plenty of it. Bu there is even more down in your neck of the woods--I see it all the time when I visit family.

I believe there were a whole lot more of us that found injustice than did not.

There was plenty of disagreement on that point.

Yes, but they are mandated by CONGRESS. I’d be HAPPY if congress would revoke the mandatory sentencing for use of guns in a crime of violence, and make it retroactive to the day of sentencing of these two. I don’t think a mandatory sentence is aplicable when the use of force was by an officer.

I’ll explain: The point of these extra and mandatory sentences is to discourage criminals from buying and using guns in a crime.

There’s no point in discouraging an officer, because they are mandated to carry a weapon. If they are going to commit an act of passion that is illegal, it’s going to happen with their weapon, so the idea of an extra sentence for “using their weapon” is silly.

BTW, this is about the only complaint about Sutton that I have entertained as having merit, that he could have dropped those charges. I understand that he put them in to help get a plea bargain (in which case I bet the guys would have had pretty short sentences), and that once you do that you can’t give them up easily or the “plea bargain” thing won’t work at all (I dislike the plea bargain process as a parlor game for gamblers).

Most Americans know that the "justice department" on up isn't in favor of Americans. Our "representatives" don't listen to a word their constituents say. There are few in "congress" who have any ounce of respect in America.

Bring back frontier justice and unseat or impeach the quislings in Washington who we trusted and who failed us! Only then will we get our country back.
