It's no secret that Google wants to basically own the Internet from Youtube to you name it. They want to be to the Internet what Microsoft was to desktops.
What would Obama get in return for having Congress pass Internet regulations that only favor Google? Google will collect data via searches and censor information not privy to the Government view.
Can you say "Communism", no different than China and Google has already censored information relative to Obama searches. It is fact. Google is guilty of censorship in favor of their Candidate etc.
Do not use Google.

Is there a better alternative? I remember switching once before, and I think the new service was even worse.
Google has been pretty good about not abusing its potential as spyware, unlike many earlier search services.

Haven’t you heard, they aren’t limiting themselves to the internet. They are working on hosted applications to compete with MS office and other popular applications.
They have come out with a cell phone.
They want to store your medical records.
They give you search results based on what your government wants you to see.
That is like saying “don’t use the Internet.”
There may be more effective strategies for undermining Google’s revenue than simply “don’t use.”
But it is good that you point out the bias that has started to be very prevalent and unhidable (not a word, I know) in the Google universe.
I love google services sorry.
However that said I don’t send or pay for any google services and I got enough ad-block software so I never see google ads either.

Just as the broadcast airwaves belong to “the people” so will the narrowcast entities be forced into the “public domain.”

Unfortunately, Goggle is the best, most comprehensive, and the fastest to get new material of all the search engines.
I use clusty.com because I heard they are better with your privacy....but I don’t know their politics. I am extremely happy with Clusty and AVOID using Google wherever and whenever possible.
Is there any other search engine? Before Google came out, I used to use Excite and some others I’ve already forgotten.
Google gets income every time you do a search on it? Who knew?!
Use Google, just do not click on the ads.
And do alot of searches for GUNS.
I’ve been using Yahoo as an alternative. Seems fine for my needs.

Google is turning into RealPlayer, shoving themselves in everyone’s face and trying to take over your system. If the OEMs allow their spyware browser to be the default at installation then they are part of the problem and not the solution. It’s bad enough we’ve got IE but I’d argue even that’s not as bad as Chrome despite the standards problem.
