The Sound Of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street
lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People
writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

Fools said i, you do not know
Silence like a
cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.

The Sound of Lying

Prince of Darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again.
To say your prophecy came true
You have more power than I knew
And the words that you planted in my brain
still remain:
"They love the sound....of lying!"

They never notice when I say
something different every day.
You knew those fools would always cheer,
they hear the words they want to hear.
And their brains.... turn into skulls full of mush
when they rush:
To hear the sound....of lying.

It beats all I ever saw,
A hundred million, maybe more:
people hearing without listening,
people feeling without thinking.
People....who will always think I'm "cool,"
they are fools
who love the sound....of lying

Fools they are, they do not know
that lying like a cancer grows.
Every time they hear a lie,
it's easier for them to tell a lie.
And the lies start to sound like a ringing bell
straight from hell
They love the sound....of lying.

And you made me bow and pray,
when I became The One that day.
though you told me what you were borning
I didn't listening to your warning
it didn't even give me any pause
just because
You are the father....of lying

KEYWORDS: parody
Consider the character of the original song:

1. It has a pleasant sound.

2. Many of the phrases have meaning, and

3. evoke mental images and emotions ("turned my collar to the cold and damp.")

4. The song, as a whole, conveys no determinable message.

Due to these factors, we tended to infuse the absurd/ambiguous words with whatever "meaning" best suited the spirit of the times, and our own wishful thinking.

Life remains just as meaningless as it always was, for those who cannot or will not make the necessary sacrifices in their lives to find and interpret real meaning.

Getting smart is HARD.

Whether enough of us will learn, before our nation is destroyed, is an open uestion.
