According to Time, with the passing of Walter Cronkite, America’s choice for “most trusted newscaster” is . . . Jon Stewart? Really? Perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it is discouraging to learn that a plurality of my fellow citizens prefer a jackanapes who treats news events with disingenuous mockery to . . . uh . . . well, Brian Williams isn’t so bad. Sometimes. And this I can believe: Katie Couric ran a distant, dead-dog last.

When something cool like the Moon Landing occurred, we turned on the tube. TV was for pleasure back then...Johnny Carson, Lucy, Westerns, and for the kiddies...Mr. Rogers...
