The White House is being blasted for asking supporters to send "fishy" information about the health care reform bill that they have received through rumors, chain e-mails and casual conversations to a White House e-mail address -- the now infamous flag@whitehouse.gov.
I was all set to say -- ok, ok, we made our point. This is what liberals would have said if this had been tried during W's administration. No one seriously believes that this is going to create problems for any individual. There isn't going to be an "enemies list" or any such nonsense. There is no need to be paranoid.
But then I recalled how individuals in California who had made contributions in support of Prop 8 were targeted by those opposed. The San Francisco Chronicle published the names and home addresses of everyone who donated money in support of the marriage initiative and some of those donors were harrassed with a deluge of emails and in other menacing ways.
So who's to say this couldn't happen with people who voice concerns about a sweeping, unnecessary overhaul of an imperfect system? When they point out that the few million who are in a medical care crisis can be helped (and changes that can benefit everyone can be made) without the government taking over and without costing us trillions of dollars that we don't have -- should this be made a permanent public record?
The White House knows all the counterpoints being made to their proposals. They can simply respond to them. Why do they feel it's necessary to ask their supporters for specific people's names and/or email addresses? Maybe it's all innocent enough. Maybe the White House had no ulterior motive. But who knows what would have become of that list? What could happen if it gets into the wrong hands?
It's one thing for a blogger to go on record and put herself out there. I accept the consequences. But people shouldn't have to worry that their random conversations at the water cooler, the soccer game, or the neighborhood block party could lead to trouble.
I wouldn't have believed it. But it has happened. The conservative reaction to this move by the White House is not paranoia. It's an all-too-real concern about potential payback.

Is this woman Big Brother? Probably not, but why is she asking Americans to report on their neighbors?
She had better wear older clothes when Bambi throws her under the bus with the other “regular white people”!
That would be an impeachable offense.
I'm not laughing here... I think we are heading toward the next depression and the next "dictator" era... similar to the 1920-1940s which saw the rise of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and a host of other dictators...
The folks that truly believe that government can solve the problems they the government caused and doomed to repeat history...

With a wannabe Communist in the American White House is there any such thing as being paraniod anymore?
Remember the Black Panthers with nightsticks at the voting polls in Philly. Remember ACORN and their actions? Do you recall the organized attacks on Sarah Palin?
If you do not fear the current regime that is in control of America then you have not been paying attention.
I already assume that someinformation has been gathered about me by this Governmentbased onmy use of Freeper, writing letters to Elected Officials on healthcare and other issues, that I am a veteran involved in veterans affairs, and that I am a gun onwer. Ofcourse being a Christian was probally enough to get meon a list..........
I sent them an e-mail about people lying about healhcare. I listed the perps...Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and the rest of the left wing Dems.

Libertarians call on Democrats to end their war on dissent
August 5, 2009 by Libertarian Party
WASHINGTON Libertarian National Committee Communications Director Donny Ferguson released the following statement Wednesday, after Democratic National Committee Communications Director Brad Woodhouse released a statement Tuesday accusing private citizens opposed to the proposed government takeover of health care of being part of a paid, organized conspiracy against the president:
Whether its having the Franking Commission censor congressional opponents outgoing mail, sliming private citizens who question their agenda or urging their followers to report critics directly to the White House, desperate Democrats have only one way of dealing with Americans overwhelming opposition to their radical agenda using the power of government to silence dissent.
After years of paying ACORN radicals to show up at events and having union members take paid vacations to go protest, I can see how Democrats are now incapable of recognizing free speech when they see it. They appear to have conceded the fact their government takeover of health care sends costs skyrocketing, innovation plummeting and waiting lists growing. Unable to sell Americans on the virtues of government control, Democrats have now resorted to trying to silence them.
Among them is Congressman Lloyd Doggett, who claimed citizens spontaneously and freely expressing mainstream opinions he didnt agree with were conspiring with Libertarians to stop government-run medicine. Libertarians didnt organize this expression of free speech, theyre just joined by millions of other mainstream Americans in opposing this dangerous plan for government-run, rationed care.
The Democrat war on dissent reached a peak this week when the White House posted a blog entry urging the presidents followers to find people who criticize the president, even in casual conversation, and forward the information to flag@whitehouse.gov. That is a brazen attempt to bully people into silence by leading them to believe any statements critical of the president will land them on the new version of the White House enemies list.
Libertarians find it ironic a community organizer is now using the government to try and to stop people from organizing their communities. Instead of using official edicts to smear, slander and intimidate everyday Americans into silence, Democrats should listen to the majority of Americans and drop their plans for a radical government takeover of their health care.
Libertarians call on President Obama to issue a public apology to the millions of independent-thinking Americans his administration has slimed, to call off his plans to compile the flag@whitehouse.gov enemies list and to end the Democrats use of government power to silence dissent
I’d vote for impeachment.
urkel is a complete FAILURE!
Have you noticed that noone has surfaced that knew zero when he was student? that’s interesting.
I sure did!! I STILL can't believe this guy got elected 4 times...
I mean, what was his winning campaign slogan? "Vote for me and maybe, this time things will get better?"
John Cornyn Takes on Obamas flag@whitehouse.gov Program, But Wait! Theres More with the NTIACongress adopted the Broadband Data Improvement Act in 2008 to compile of map of the nation showing which areas have broadband and which do not. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is getting the information, but the Obama Administration has decided to use the NTIA to get more than the law requires.
Beyond the general data on which parts of the nation have high speed internet access and is it cable or DSL, Obama wants to know down to the individual what the individual has and how much the individual pays. Specifically, the NTIA is now requiring internet provides to give the government average revenue per end user and data regarding type, technical specification or location of broadband infrastructure, i.e. your home address, IP address, how much you pay, and where the connection is at your house.
The law does not require it. Congress does not want it. The NTIA admits the information will not be used to compile the map of national broadband, but Barack Obama still wants it.
We have a White House asking neighbors to turn in neighbors by forwarding emails some of which will contain IP address information. And we have the White House demanding internet providers provide them with the home addresses corresponding to those IP addresses. Lastly, we have a White House that has thus far been extremely opaque despite pledges of transparency and a White House that has not hesitated to use private citizens information when it benefits them.
I think you mean “typical” White people, if you’re quoting the racist 0bama.
I mean, what was his winning campaign slogan? "Vote for me and maybe, this time things will get better?"
FDR got elected 4 times because he controlled the dissemination of information, spoke directly to the people via fireside chats and lulled them into believing that he was acting in their best interests with NRA, CCC, WPA giving out jobs to the unemployed and social security to the old folks.
I once asked someone what they thought would be the cause of the next war.
Their answer: The control of information.
And that answer was before Algore invented the internet.
Absolutely. Dictators understand this. Case in point... what Hugo is doing in Venezuela right now... he is closing down the opposition radio stations...
This is probably the biggest reason why the liberals are pushing the "Fairness Doctrine." There is nothing fair about this... the news about them has to positive or must be shut down.
And we wonder why the POTUS is taking the time to attack Rush...
Saw a suggestion today that I have taken for action.
I went into my junk email box and forwarded each and every message to flag@whitehouse.gov.
The way I see it, I can kill two birds with one stone. First I am reporting the spammers as being fishy, and if enough of us do it, they may realize that they were acting stupidly.
I know that I have probably put myself on some watch list by suggesting it, but I am guessing I already was. As a Christian, Veteran, Gun-owning, History Reading, Liberty loving individual, I am a threat to their success.
You are correct, Sir!
I find it intensely annoying that anyone even needs to be told how offensive this is.
Even in the ‘hood, the worst thing you can do is to snitch on your homeboy after he be cappin’ somebody.
So you don’t even have to know or care about Constitutional principles, you can be an amateur or hardened criminal and this is against the rules.
