DUmmie FUnnies 09-28-09 ("Actors you were bummed to find out were Republican...")
DUmmie FUnnies ^ | September 28, 2009 | DUmmies and PJ-Comix

Posted on 09/28/2009 4:50:20 PM PDT by PJ-Comix

I was actually planning on doing a DUFU about either the DUmmies or KOmmies biting their fingernails over the survival of public option in ObamaCare. Right now they are acting as if their very existence depends on public option remaining. However, I find the constant micro-analysis of each little nuance and twitch of the various Senators and Congress folks to be highly annoying. Like their self-absorbed neurosis was making me neurotic reading about it. Therefore I decided to go with the FUn THREAD, "Actors you were bummed to find out were Republican..." At least one of the actors mentioned actually surprised me since I would have never guessed him to be a Republican. So let us now watch the DUmmies get bummed out over Republican actors in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, reminding everybody that Lou Costello was a conservative Republican (really), is in the [brackets]:

Actors you were bummed to find out were Republican...

[John Wayne?]

Robert Downey, Jr.

Can't believe he went all Pro Bush...

[I have to admit this actually surprised me as well. Even more of a surprise than finding out that Richard Feynman was also a Republican.]

Tom Selleck. I thought he would be too smart for it.

[I figured Selleck for a conservative...which is why Rosie O'Donnell went nuts on him.]

Jimmy Stewart. From all his movies you got the idea that he was an empathetic humanist. He was a solid repub though.

[No surprise there. I already knew this about Jimmy.]

If he were alive today, I think he wouldn't still be a republcian.

[Somehow I can't picture Jimmy Stewart hanging out with the ACORN crowd.]

William Holden and Barbara Stanwyck... were two more old school republican, Eisenhower types

[William Holden was Best Man at Ronald Reagan's wedding. Barbara Stanwyck? She was the wife of Robert Taylor who testified in Congress about the Reds in Hollywood.]

Bruce Willis, Dennis Hopper

[And Willis had the sense to ditch that airhead Demi Moore.]

wow, would not have expected Dennis Hopper that is sad

[May we send you a consolation card?]

Patricia Heaton. I absolutely despise her since I found out she's a Republican. Especially after I read some of the comments she has made. Blech!!! That's the only one that bothers me. Don't have any negative feelings about the others I know of who are Republican.

[Send her to The Hague for political Thought Crimes.]

I can't watch her anymore. She is a good comedic actress. However, once I know something like that, it just destroys my image of them.

[Is Playboy Playmate Petra Verkaik a Republican? Somehow I don't think her politics would be my main concern if I ever happen to bump into her.]

Robert Duvall. he's a REAL asshole, too. smug, arrogant, uber macho prick. so that makes it easier to loathe him, unlike Downey, who I've always liked a lot can't believe he swings that way must've been all the drugs

[Was Gabby Hayes a Republican? That knowledge would greatly influence how I perceive Roy Rogers movies.]

What??? Robert Downey Jr.?? Is that true? I had not heard that. My wife will be crushed when she hears this -- he is one of her favorite actors.

[Your wife will have to retire her bong pipe.]

Clint Eastwood

[Kind of hard to think of Dirty Harry as a kneejerk liberal.]

Stallone. Who coulda guessed?

[Easy to guess that when you watch the Rocky Balboa movies.]

Gary Sinese

[No surprise there. And I've been a big fan of his since watching him in "True West." A great play.]

John Voight

[No surprise now but years ago I sort of had him pegged for a liberal.]

Jim Caviezel

[Jesus was a Republican. Remember that.]

Mary Tyler Moore told Parade last year how much she loves Bill O'Reilly and said she'd campaign for McCain/Palin if asked

[FUn Fact: Morey Amsterdam from the Dick Van Dycke show was a big supporter of Ronald Reagan.]

Adam Sandler shattered my illusions.

[Another Republican. I loved him as Dave Buzznik in "Anger Management." Was Dr. Buddy Rydell also a Republican?]

Phyllis Diller.

[Bob Hope must have rubbed off on her.]

Here is a list of them: MEATLOAF? And, Cindy Williams of Lavern & Shirley

[I never thought about it before but Meatloaf's political leanings surprises me as well.]

R. Lee Ermey is a Republican?!

[How could you possibly think that Sgt. Hartman would be a liberal Democrat?]

Micky Dolenz of the Monkees. He apparently appeared as a headline act at a teabag event in Texas. Bummer.

[Peter Tork?]

Drew Carey. Majorly bummed about that

[Then I better not tell you about Lou Costello.]

DEAL ALERT! DEAL ALERT!

Target has California Pizza Kitchen on sale for just $2.50. However, Smart Source 9/27 has a $1 California Pizza Kitchen coupon. That means your cost will be just $1.50. You will need to go to a Super Target where they sell groceries. California Pizza Kitchen is EXCELLENT pizza!

He also takes his "kids" on the road with him, and is a very strong family man [also unlike his Dad.] Arlo's trajectory is particularly striking when you consider that all of his influences were Old Labor/Red. He still has a lot of those guys as close friends.

Your both right as he flew both in combat,

excerpt from his bio.

In August 1943 he was finally assigned to the 445th Bombardment Group at Sioux City AAB, Iowa, first as Operations Officer of the 703rd Bombardment Squadron and then as its commander, at the rank of Captain.

In December, the 445th Bombardment Group flew its B-24 Liberator bombers to RAF Tibenham, England and immediately began combat operations. While flying missions over Germany, Stewart was promoted to Major.

In March 1944, he was transferred as group operations officer to the 453rd Bombardment Group, a new B-24 unit that had been experiencing difficulties.

As a means to inspire his new group, Stewart flew as command pilot in the lead B-24 on numerous missions deep into Nazi-occupied Europe.

These missions went uncounted at Stewart's orders. His "official" total is listed as 20 and is limited to those with the 445th.

In 1944, he twice received the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in combat and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. He also received the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

In July 1944, after flying 20 combat missions, Stewart was made Chief of Staff of the 2nd Combat Bombardment Wing of the Eighth Air Force. Before the war ended, he was promoted to colonel, one of very few Americans to rise from private to colonel in four years.

In 1966, Brigadier General James Stewart flew as a non-duty observer in a B-52 on a bombing mission during the Vietnam war.

He did appear on the TV series, The World At War to discuss the October 14, 1943, bombing mission to Schweinfurt, which was the center of the German ball bearing manufacturing industry.

This mission is known in USAF history as Black Thursday due to the high casualties it sustained; in total, 60 aircraft were lost out of 291 dispatched, as the raid consisting entirely of B-17s was unescorted all the way to Schweinfurt and back due to the contemporary escort aircraft available lacking the range.

Fittingly, he was identified only as "James Stewart, Squadron Commander" in the documentary.

PJ, if you have room for a floor freezer you should check out auctions. At the one I was at Thursday night they sold a brand new one with tags still attached for $85.

In the book Rabbit Hill the animals are afraid of the man, but at the end they discover he has a statue of the Good Saint (whom they know about) in the vegetable garden and it has engraved on it "There is enough for all."

The man and his wife had planted a special garden for the animals.

I fed birds and raccoons until I got my new dog, who unfortunately hates birds. I don't want to lure them here only to have her go after them.

Bless you for feeding the critters.

Jimmy Stewart - 20 missions (officially, actually more), including Schweinfurt and Berlin. Enlisted March, 1941 (before Pearl Harbor), talked his way into going overseas when the Army Air Corps wanted to keep him in the U.S. as an instructor. Went from private to colonel during the course of the war.

You probably know these things, calex59. I posted just to inform other FReepers who might not know anything about Brigadier General James M. Stewart, who also had a bit of a Hollywood career.

Jimmy Stewart flew a B17 in WWII, I forget how many missions but it was a bunch.

I think he flew 25 missions over Germany. If I'm not mistaken that was the number of missions a bomber pilot or crewman had to complete before he could go back to the states. I think Clark Gable also flew on quite a few missions over Germany. I say "flew on" missions because I don't think he was an actual pilot or co-pilot. Stewart, Gable, Fonda, and quite a few of the WWII era Hollywood actors were involved in combat or some other type of actual military service during WWII instead of just using their celebrity status for things like making film clips and public appearances urging Americans to buy war bonds.

Interestingly, John Wayne, who during and after the war starred in many war movies as a heroic fighting man, was classified 3-A by his draft board on the request of his film studio. A 3-A classification amounted to a draft deferral during that war, and he never served in any branch of the military.

A local radio talk show (Rick and Bubba) has a semi-regular contest called ‘Is it Gene or Dave?’ where they state quotes regarding financial/personal responsibility and then have callers guess (three right ones in a row is a victory) whether the person being quoted is Dave Ramsey or Gene Simmons.

It’s surprising how often people get the quotes wrong.

Heck yeah.

Walk into the nearby Apple store, plunk your $300 on the counter and tell them you want a fully functional 7” laptop and you will learn the meaning of laughter.

I didn’t know about Chaka Khan and Alice Cooper.

Chaka gets pegged as a Republican because she performed at the 2000 convention, but she claims to be more "Democrat minded", according to wikipedia. Alice Cooper supported Palin.

Politically, Schroder is a Republican who supported George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004. He supported candidate John McCain in the 2008 election. He also spoke at the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. He is also a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. [5]
