The era of the ‘Man’s Man’ is coming ever closer to ending. Soon it will be acceptable for all men to see a film and let it truly effect them emotionally. But that time isn’t upon us just yet. These are the top ten movies that not only make men cry, but it is deemed acceptable for them to do so.

With all of the projects Billy Dee Williams and James Caan have done (Godfather, The Empire Strikes Back, etc.) whenever I see them in any film, I still always see them as Gale and Brian.

I worked that day, retail, selling stuff to folks. People were very quiet. I wept quietly on and off all day, but totally lost it on the drive home, heading north on the 405 freeway in Orange County. Someone had draped an American flag over one of the freeway overpasses.

That's when I really broke down. My heart felt like it was about to burst.

It was the whole story of that old guy so determined to live his dream and not letting anyone or anything stop him, he was fearless, determined, loving, talented, humble, and very likeable. Every part in the movie where he ran up against an obstacle and then overcame it brought a tear, and when he beat the record, after all the trouble he went through, whoa, kleenex time.

I am also a motorcyclist and could identify. I have taken my bike up to 130mph so had some idea of the courage it took for him to take that wobbly contraption to 200.

Bert Munro is one of my heroes and I will soon have a poster of him and his bike on my wall. At 56 myself I am no starry eyed kid either, I just have THAT much respect for him.

“Taking Chance” was a tear-jerker. Kevin Bacon plays an escort officer taking a Marine KIA home to be buried. It’s based on a true story and they inserted childhood and coming of age pictures of the Marine with the closing credits.

My husband cried during Titanic. It was when he looked at his watch and realized there was two hours left in the movie.

We watched Armageddon with a household full of teenagers. The part where Bruce Willis is saying goodbye to the daughter made all of the guys tear up. In all fairness, all the girls teared up as well.

Yes - “We Were Soldiers” got to me a LOT. I kept trying to explain to my son that those tears weren’t for the movie so much as the bravery and honor and death of the actual men that the movie portrayed.

I also now cry every time at the end of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Again, based more on my real-life experiences than the movie.

I’ll admit the original Rocky movie gets me teared up. Not crying in any way, but just the raw emotion of the music and the storyline of the ultimate underdog getting his one shot in life and making the most of it. Whenever I hear the theme from Rocky I get all tingled up and go running around looking for a brick wall to run through.

Most on this list is a joke.
Passion of the Christ, for the closest thing I'll see, this side of Heaven, of my Saviour's choice to suffer.
Most posters here touch some common themes of movies when I get a gut-punch, tear up, or cry:

• children's lives taken from parents, via crimes or tragedies
• innocent lives slaughtered
• loss of soulmate
• profound redemption of soul and forgiveness - either to God or someone severely wronged
• bonds of courage, especially if it leads to selfless sacrifice of one's own life (similar in the war movies, brings what David said of Jonathan - that the gays twist out of context - he loved him more than a woman)
• bonds of friendships lost
• when evil or corruption runs rampant - then it's a crying of righteous rage
  (Man on Fire, scene in Saving Private Ryan when sniveling coward can't man up and lets the German gut his comrade slowly and lets the German walk right by him)

With that said - Patriots, United Flight 93, Man on Fire, Up, It's a Wonderful Life, even parts of Independence Day (Drunk Dennis Quaid loser dad looking at his kids pic before he shoves it up the aliens' ship's anal cavity)

I shed a tear at Saving Private Ryan. There were vets in the audience. Nobody moved until the entire movie was done, credits and all.

Same thing with We Were Soldiers and Flags of Our Fathers.

My guess is that was in the first 10 minutes, too. They could have made the entire movie from that little segment.

Well, here's an unusual one that many won't fess up to: Disney/Pixar's UP.

In the opening sequence when Ellie discovers she can't have children, I cry like a baby! Also, I get choked up during the death scene. Yup, both of those scenes get me everytime. And, because I have a two-year-old who loves to watch it over and over, I've seen that darn movie over a dozen times and I still can't help getting a little teary-eyed!
