Henrietta Hughes tugged at the nation's heartstrings when she stood Feb. 10, 2009, at a town hall gathering in Fort Myers, Fla., and told President Barack Obama about how she and her adult son, Corey, were homeless, living in a vehicle and in need of "our own kitchen and our own bathroom." Whatever happened to Henrietta Hughes?
Henrietta Hughes tugged at the nation's heartstrings when she stood Feb. 10, 2009, at a town hall gathering in Fort Myers, Fla., and told President Barack Obama about how she and her adult son, Corey, were homeless, living in a vehicle and in need of "our own kitchen and our own bathroom." Whatever happened to Henrietta Hughes?
State Rep. Nick Thompson (R-Fort Myers) and his wife Chene allowed Henrietta and Corey to live in a home they owned "until they got back on their feet." According to a local newspaper report Monday, however, the Hughes had to leave the LaBelle, Fla., home after it was sold early last month.
Now, according to the same report, the Hugheses live in a duplex in Lehigh Acres where Corey Hughes is employed by Lee Memorial Health System and Henrietta Hughes is still looking for work.
EDITOR'S NOTE: To learn what Henrietta Hughes didn't tell the nation when she made her tearful plea, read Documents Shed New Light on 'Homeless Henrietta', a post I published two days after the event. The result of some real journalistic digging, it contains what the late Paul Harvey would have described as "the rest of the story."
When I tried to clink on the link to the previous story, I got a notation that the thread had been pulled.
“Henrietta Hughes is still looking for work”
She reminds one of a perpetual seeker of any thing BUT a job
Don’t know anything about Henrietta, I’m still waiting for a followup interview of the girl who was so ecstatic she wouldn’t have to put gas in her gas tank anymore. Wonder how hope and change is working for her??
The black woman who declared obama would put gas in her
tank and pay her mortgage was foreclosed on some time back.
LOL
Can’t help ya. Everything’s working for me.
She married Howard Hughes?
Try it again. The thread has been pulled.
Thanks.
