Two generals in Afghanistan is a crowd? McCrystal and Eikenberry both have to go!

As if the White House behavior on the war in Afghanistan wasn’t erratic enough – General McCrystal jumped into the mess with a dopey interview for the culture icon Rolling Stone. It was clear even in 2009 that the US Commander on the ground in Afghanistan is not on the same page with our ambassador in the country. Remember how Karl Eikenberry, decided to weigh into the madness opposing sending more troops to Afghanistan when President Obama was dithering on the new strategy?. Second comes the question: which one of the two generals in Afghanistan is in charge – McCrystal or Eikenberry? That is right. US ambassador in Afghanistan is a career army officer. Obama appointed Lieutenant General Eikenberry instead of career diplomat to this highly important ambassadorship. Not surprising since Obama himself thought that attending kindergarten in Indonesia counts as a foreign policy experience.

The confusion in the White House is total. Two generals are appointed by President Obama – both of them in key positions in Afghanistan. The commander on the ground McCrystal was asking for more troops or a new strategy. The Ambassador Eikenberry was asking for new strategy and no troops. Don’t you wonder how those two work together over there?...

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the man charged with executing President Obama’s war plan for Afghanistan, has gone rogue in an explosive article in Rolling Stone. He and his staff crack wise on just about everyone. Obama (”unprepared”), Vice President Biden (”bite me”), American ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry (betrayer), special envoy Richard Holbrooke (”wounded animal”) and White House National Security Adviser Jim Jones (”clown”).

"McCrystal and Eikenberry both have to go!"

Right and take the troops with them. General Petraeus said there was only double digits of al Queda there. So what we have is mission creep involving ourselves in a local power struggle. This isn't a cause for our troops to die - no matter who wins, we lose.

I agree with McCrystal - however it is a war. People die there - if he had something to say - say it in Congressional hearing, say it to Obama in his face - don’t spray it in the Rolling Stone! It is embarrassing!

If McCrystal was a man enough he would have complained and voiced his opinion using the appropriate channels.

Now thanks to Obama we see the breakdown of our military. It’s not like McChrystal doesn’t know how things work. Why would he have to go out on such a limb? To bring attention to how poorly Obama’s strategy is? To protect the troops? We all know Obama ‘will stand Muslim when the political winds shift in an ugly direction’. And knew just how to set it up to do just that.

“I agree with McCrystal - however it is a war. People die there - if he had something to say - say it in Congressional hearing, say it to Obama in his face - don’t spray it in the Rolling Stone! It is embarrassing!”

The leadership is the embarrassment. We all know what they are thinking. It comes as no surprise. How many times have we had this same conversation;

‘Are you asking about Vice President Biden?’ McChrystal says with a laugh. ‘Who’s that?’ ‘Biden?’ suggests a top adviser. ‘Did you say “Bite Me?”

I know about war and death. I also know that this collection of assholes running this thing is going to so screw the pooch that it isn’t going to end well. They all know that. This wasn’t an accident. They knew they were on the record.

You say “if he had something to say - say it in Congressional hearing...”

What? What possible good would that do? What good has it done so far? These guys are screwed and they know it and their is no one in “Congressional hearings” that will help. Or “say it to Obama in his face” yeah, that should help.

This is going to insubordination no matter how it goes, no matter how it is presented and that really is a shame. While I agree with you it is unfortunate and out of line, I think it is the act of desperation that should be clear to everyone.

Afghanistan is a cluster freak - at least this way we can all see how deep it goes. Congressional hearings aren’t going to get this out there like this did. And it ain’t like this is the first time a General has gone off like this.

Sadly this article is more about personalities than what really matters. Our govt is out of control on all fronts flailing around hoping to magically figure out the path to success. The void caused by this is going to be filled and the outcome will be bad for the entire world. The electorate of this country better get a clue and start rectifying the situation ASAP. In the end even the most stanch democrats aren’t going to like the outcome. They’ll never figure out how we came to it tho.

Exactly. This collection of azzholes in the administration is lost...they don’t have an Exec anywhere in the building...

Riddle me this—ANYONE-—

Why would a general—of all people—....

(A) Voted for BHO in the first place?

(B) Give an interview to Rolling Stone Magazine?

“I vote for Obama to go instead!!!”

I agree.

May be the embarrassment with the leadership in Afghanistan is a good argument for impeachment.

Where will McCrystal complain next? Playboy?

I read in another thread that ROLLING STONE was embedded with them for a month.

I'd like to know who decides on embedding journalists - and how they decide which locations and what durations.

Does Mccrystal decide where journalists are embedded? ROLLING STONE was embedded with him & his crew for one month --- now WHO decided upon that???

Posters in this thread are acting like the general WENT to RS and gave ONE interview. That's not what occurred.

***"Apparently the reporter was given access to McChrystal for 30 days. IIRC that is unprecedented.***
